Units 2 and 3 Glan Aber Works
Asbestos was commonly used in older buildings, derived from silicate rocks which have been crushed. This produces very fine fibres which have been connected to mesothelioma cancers, in addition to lung cancer, pleural plaque, and asbestosis, all of which are dangerous. For this reason, asbestos is now being removed from buildings. Our surveys cover, as far as possible, all materials that contain asbestos. This is done through sampling all areas of the building which are considered likely to contain asbestos fibres. Full sampling is undertaken, and estimates as to the volume and area of the asbestos are calculated. In conducting the survey, all areas need to be assessed as much as possible, including false ceilings and risers, lift shafts and service ducts. All materials containing asbestos can then be removed.
