What is the World Wide Web?

Invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 the web is a network of servers linked together by a common protocol, allowing access to millions of hypertext resources. It is also known as WWW, W3 and the World Wide Web.

That's great, but do we need to know that in order to utilise it?
