Dams were founded and started business in 1967 as a Dictating and Adding Machine Service from a Liverpool City Centre office by Barry Scott.

It was noticed that along with having machines serviced, clients also bought office furniture. This was the beginning of Dams relationship with office furniture; soon Barry was buying and selling furniture and equipment to rival his biggest local competitors.

Thoughts quickly turned to manufacturing furniture, and soon a small unit in North Wales was purchased where Dams manufactured their first desk.

During the late 1970's and early 1980's decisions took place that shaped Dams International Ltd into the company we are today. Firstly an opportunity arose to acquire half of what is now the Gores Road Mill, and so the manufacturing operation moved from Wales to Kirkby, Merseyside. Secondly a decision was made to change the format of furniture supplied from fully built to flat pack.

With the continued expansion of the business through the 1980's and 1990's, Dams themselves expanded to meet the increased demand with the introduction of a telesales department, the purchase of 40ft wagons and the introduction of new product lines. Expansion continued with the purchase of further manufacturing and office units around the Kirkby area.

The late 1990's saw Dams add to their Merseyside sites with the purchase of the land and construction of a 155,000 sq ft warehouse (one of the largest in the industry); enabling us to carry two weeks stock of almost every product.

It was not only on Merseyside that Dams expanded their operations, with the development of a network of Regional Distribution Centres across the UK and Ireland and a purpose built showroom on Great Portland Street, London.

In 2005 Barry Scott retired from the business and handed over the running of Dams to his eldest son, Chris.

Chris takes over the business as Dams celebrates 40 years in business supplying not only the UK but the world with office and contract furniture.

Our huge stock-holding means we can deliver and install most of our product ranges.

This service is available to UK Mainland from our network of fully trained furniture fitters. All products will be delivered and assembled, and left ready for you to use, and all packaging materials removed from site. In the unlikely event of defective or missing parts, our fitters have direct access to our after sales department and can request replacement items. These can be dispatched immediately which means any problems can be rectified in a matter of days.

This level of service ensures that your office furniture is ready to use with minimum delay.
