A restaurant you will want to make your regular

We are a young professional couple with high standards when it comes to dining out. During the three years that we have been living in South Sutton, we have become regular visitors to Ricci's - perhaps twice a month. The restaurant is a stone's throw from the station but is the last restaurant in the line of shops. Therefore, it is not difficult to imagine that opportunist diners find themselves walking into one of the first Italians they come across rather than venturing a hundred yards to the end of the parade. But Ricci's is certainly worth the few extra steps. The food is fantastic, the prices are very reasonable and the family who have owned the restaurant for years deliver the kind of service you would expect from a family-run Italian which genuinely values its customers. The older lady who owns it always points out that her pizza bases are fresh and cooked from scratch in their big clay oven. Whatever you do, don't confuse a Ricci's pizza base with a frozen one - I'm not convinced that you'd be forgiven. Her elderly and rather jolly husband will always joke in his strong accent (we think he's Italian) that he finds the credit card machine confusing. We find them really endearing - genuine, lovely people.Their pizzas are amazing and the guy who has been manning the clay oven for years is either a perfectionist or he's got more pizza-preparing experience than you could shake a breadstick at.For us, ambiance is key and Ricci's has a really pleasant, cosy atmosphere which I suspect is helped by the music (think Magic or Heart FM).Ricci's is the restaurant you will want to make your regular. We feel that if we are going to eat out during the credit crunch, we want to spend our money supporting small restaurants like Ricci's.These locals and the people behind them were adding real colour to the community long before the chains arrived with their frozen pizza bases.

We popped in here for our New Years Eve celebrations. It was the first time we had eaten here in all the years we have lived in Sutton. I really don't know why we hadn't ventured here before I must have driven past it a hundred times. When we arrived and were warmly greeted and shown to our table the décor looked modern and newly decorated. We were seated quite near the gigantic stone oven in the corner (not in use that night but still had a fire going in it). It was nice to have the fires warmth after the cold outside. As the night progressed it got a bit busier which created a nice atmosphere but the restaurant never really got full. The service was very prompt and the food was delicious. There was a set menu for NYE with a prawn starter, soup, sorbet, a lovely steak for the main course, then a nice desert followed by coffee. All for 30 pounds a head, not bad I thought for the quality of the food and service. The feel from all the staff was friendly and very attentive, it's obvious they take pride in their service and food. I will be certainly be returning to this restaurant. It deserves to be busier.

There is a little gem a few minutes walk from Sutton railaway station. That gem is Ricci's. Ricci's is a family run business, placing emphasis on great award winning food and good service without breaking the bank. An average meal costs in the region of £20 per head, whilst portion sizes could possibly feed two.Although I have heard it said the hostess can be a little cold at times - she expects customers to at least try and dress properly when they come in her restaurant, (which is not a bad thing if you ask me). It is probably a little of her Italian temperament coming through which just adds to the atmosphere for me! I would not want to be on the wrong side of her, but she has been genuinely warm and welcoming on the many occasions we have eaten here. The restaurant itself is characterised by the traditional clay oven, used for preparing and cooking all of the pizza's which is in full view to extensive parts of the restaurant. The ambience is relaxed and warm, ideal for romantic meals or special occasions. The chef obviously loves his work. He has a traditional, authentic approach and quite clearly takes a lot of pride in the food that he makes, evident by the exquisite tastes you experience whilst dining. The menu itself is traditional wholesome Italian fayre; plenty of pasta and pizza amongst numerous other dishes for those who don't like pizza or pasta or perhaps simply fancy a change, with a specials board that makes chosing a meal the most difficult part of the evening. There is something to cater to evryones tastes. Worth booking as it gets very busy. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Stay away from here!

Unfortunately Ricci's is one of those restaurants which has a lot of promise but does not really deliver. They serve Italian food but it seems like more of a half assed attempt as neither the pizza's nor the pasta are anything special. I recently went there and had a folded pizza but when I got it it was half burnt and with every cut into it then food would splurt out meaning that the whole meal became a bit of a mess.Considering this, its prices are very expensive and the wine is also quite expensive for what it is! My advice would be to avoid it and go to somewhere like Pizza Express
