Did Francis Ford Coppola eat here? This is a classic: very narrow entrance to a creaky but well maintained staircase to the first floor to a one room, twelve (?) table, open view kitchen present. The main lighting comes from three pendant fixtures: one with a green, one with a red and one with uncoloured glass. Very "Godfather'. This place is a definite throwback, perhaps because it never left the nineteen thirties.Busy and obviously popular, there appear to be two kinds of wine and two very happy workers named Fredo (in the kitchen) and Marco. Remember Coppola's Fredo? The minestrone disappointed: thin flavoured broth with grated carrots and cabbage; not my cup of soup. The Tagliatelle Marinara was presented with a flavourful, slightly creamy tomato sauce containing shrimp, squid and mussels. If Marco's friend made the tiramisu, as Marco said, his friend must have worked for Entenmenn's in New York, though their's is better. That and coffee: £15.
