Our Aims

Our aim is to first determen the cause of the problem before treating it. As with all building deffectes prevention is an important consideration if problems can be addresed at an early stage the cost and the damage can be reduced, if repair work is needed we will then consider the method and the materials to be used taking into account the age of the property and the bricks and mortar used.
Repointing
When reponiting we follow and adhere to some important well known practises a very important and well known rule in the bricklaying world is mortar should never be stronger than the bricks in this context stronger does not mean it's load bearing capacity, but the mortars hardness and permeability hard dense mortar should not be used to surround porus bricks in such brick work rain water wets the bricks but the impervious mortar stops the water diffusing and prevents brick work drying out freely idealy both the brickwork and the mortar should have a similar porosity. At RS brickwork we are fully aware of the need of using the right mortar mix for different conditions and situations and have experience in the needs for using lime mortars where most suitable ,and a more durable mortar in conditions of severe weathering and saturation
If the brick work has become excessively porus and is constantly exposed to severe weathering we do only suggest this as a final solution we will consider using a clear microporus coating wich means it is breathable thus allowing the brickwork to breathe.
