Google Adwords, is it worth it for the smaller business? Google Adwords is one of the most popular ways to market a website; in fact it is Google's main source of revenue and in 2007 it generated $16.4 Billion. ("Financial Tables". Google Investor Relations. http://investor.google.com/fin_data.html. Retrieved on 2008-01-31). So are we all just putting money into Google's pockets without getting a return of investment on our products and services? Well it really does depend on your specific circumstances and what you are hoping to get out of using Google Adwords. Google Adwords is really useful when you have just put a new website live. The Google spiders can take up to a few months to crawl and index your site and search engine optimisation is not instantaneous (no matter what some companies might tell you!). It's great to have a Google Adwords campaign in this interim period whilst your natural search engine optimisation is kicking in. Google Adwords allows you to set your budget and allows you to monitor what adverts are working and when. It's the Marketers' dream! However, big businesses are driving the cost of keywords beyond what smaller businesses can pay. For example, the keyword "web design" is around £2.00 per click! To get around this, smaller companies can use longer keyword phrases to keep the cost per click (CPC) down. Or you can set what regions can see you Ad and when. For more information about using Google Adwords email Archa at alex@archa.co.uk or call Alex on 01484 429 665 for a friendly chat.
Benefits of having an Accessible Website Archa Solutions Web Design Creating an accessible website is no more expensive than creating a non-accessible website. An accessible website will;Be easier to use. It will be easier to navigate around an accessible website. There should be clear links to all sections of the website and you should find what you are looking for without too many clicks. The colours, design and layout will all have been produced with people with disabilities in mind, although it isn’t just people with disabilities that will benefit. The creative style of the website will not be compromised; being functional doesn’t mean boring design! Reduce site maintenance costs. An accessible website separates content from presentation. This means that when you want to update some text you only have to access one set of files, saving you considerable time and money. Have higher Search Engine Rankings. Generally speaking search engines like Google and Yahoo do not understand images, video or audio content very well. They like written content that tells them what the website is about. A website will get a higher Search Engine Ranking (appear higher up in a list of search results), if the purpose of the website is clear. Be compatible with new browsers. A lot of websites are “written” in out-dated language and because of this people who have new browsers such as Firefox and Opera 8 will not be able to “read” some websites. Having an accessible website ensures that the language used is strict and up-to-date so that it can be used in as many browsers as possible. This means your business will reach more potential customers. Will load quickly. Because of the way an accessible website is programmed it will load onto a computer quickly and each time you click a link the page will load faster. It is the equivalent of cutting out unnecessary text in an essay. If you write short sentences that explain the point just as well, you will understand the meaning quicker. The Internet works in much the same way. Having quicker page loads will add to your website’s usability and will result in more returning visitors. Demonstrate social responsibility. By having an accessible website you will send a strong message to the public about your business and what it stands for. Although this benefit of goodwill from the public may be less tangible, it should not make it any less important.
We specilise in accessible web design which is about making sure that the most people can view your website on the most Internet devices. Accessible web design doesn't incur any additional costs and has great moral and money saving advantages.
