About

Rusholme Grange Holiday Cottage

Located on the banks of the River Ouse, Rusholme Grange Holiday Cottage is at the heart of a working farm and surrounded by open countryside. This former farm workers cottage offers spacious accommodation for 4/6 people + cot.

On the farm we have horses and pigs and lots of wheat. In spring lambs graze along the riverbank, in autumn there are fresh apples to be picked and eaten straight from the orchard or baked into pies!

Centrally located, York and Hull are only 35 minutes away and Leeds 45 minutes. For those who prefer more rugged countryside the North Yorkshire Moors, The Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales are all within 50 miles.

Come in and browse, you'll always enjoy a proper Yorkshire country welcome at Rusholme Grange.

The Cottage

Rusholme Grange Holiday Cottage was originally a cottage for farm workers and has been beautifully renovated to become a holiday cottage sleeping 4/6 + cot. It is one half of a semi detached cottage, the farm house being the second half. The entrance is reached under a plant covered trellis. The sweet smell of Honeysuckle in spring, gives way to roses throughout the spring and summer months and a Grape Vine gives a tasty treat for our autumn guests. There's a grassed lawn complete with BBQ for the outdoor chefs and an orchard to the rear again a culinary treat for autumn visitors.

Relax in the sittingroom ...The centre of the cottage is the large sitting room. Read a book from the bookcase or relax watching TV or a DVD. .. in front of a roaring log fire if you're feeling particularly in need of peace and quite, just turn the lights down, open a bottle and laze in front of the open log fire. Don't worry though, whichever room you're in you'll be warm and cozy as there's central heating throughout.

Traditional furnishingsThe Cottage is furnished throughout in traditional country furnishings reflecting it's age as well as the open countryside all around. There's a separate dinning room and a full fitted kitchen, microwave included perfect for those "easy" meals. If you need a washing machine or tumble dryer they are available for your use in the porch of the farmhouse.

Upstairs there's the bathroom complete with shower over the bath. All towels and bedding are, of course, included.

The master bedroomThere are two generous bedrooms; one is a double and the other a twin room. There is ample room for a cot if needed in either bedroom, provided free of charge on request, also a high chair. In the twin bedroom there is a treasure chest of toys for our youngest guests. Both bedrooms have views over the farmyard and, from the twin, the orchard.

Teddie in one of the twin beds For the children I'm sorry to say that Teddy isn't always at home so you might want to bring your own. As Rusholme Grange is a working farm you will always find some animals to get to know. Unfortunately as we are a working farm we can't let your pet visit, so sorry no dogs or other pets.

Whats to do at Rusholme Grange

Stay on the farm and relax in the peace, quiet and space that is out home. Enjoy beautiful riverside and country walks, Drax being only half an hours stroll away. Here you will find a village pub, post office/village store and a historic church. A little further afield is the village of Camblesforth with more pubs as well as both a fish and chip shop and an Indian takeaway.

Just the other side of Drax village, and visible from Rusholme Grange, is Drax power station. This coal fired power satiation (the largest in Europe) surprisingly has a wonderful nature trail which is well worth doing.

Local places of interest are Selby town with it's traditional Monday market and Selby Abbey which is the largest parish church in England. North from Selby is the historic city of York with it's mediaeval Minster and streets such as the The Shambles. Further north still are the North Yorkshire Moors - Heartbeat country and home to Hogsmeade Station from the Harry Potter films.

Down river on either side of the Ouse is the charming small market town of Howden and, on the south bank, the port town of Goole. The Waterways Museum (in Goole itself) and the RSPB reserve at Blacktoft Sands are both worth visiting. Keep going east and you arrive at Hull with it's thriving shopping areas and even The Deep, a "submarium".

To the west of Rusholme Grange there's Leeds home of the Royal Armouries, Henry Moore Sculpture Museum, Tropical World and a world class shopping centre, Harvey Niochols Department Store among many other top stores.

Self catering cottage on a family farm by the bank of the River Ouse in the Vale of York.Great for York, Hull, Leeds and the surounding countryside. Cottage has two berooms, one a kingsize bedroom and the other a twin. Spacious gardens, loads of parking. A warm elcome to both holiday guests and people working in the area.
