Indian and Veggie, for the better, not the worse.

The other great veggie restaurant of the Hammersmith area. Located on King Street, this is a real alternative to The Gate, but also to traditional Indian Restaurants. If you are fleeing away from the bloody grills and prefer to tuck into some vegetables without feeling like a cow in a pitch, this is your holy ground. Fantastic long menu of affordable indian veggie dishes, ideal for trials and sharing. The atmosphere is not special, or kitsch, but the delight is in the plate. That is sufficient to me. Definitely a new addition to my list of prefered destination in the neighbourhood.

Great tasting and good value

This is a lovely, relaxed and modern looking South Indian restaurant serving vegetarian food. The quality and taste of the food are great - and you can get dosa, poori and battura bread, which you can't find in regular Indian food places. The prices are good too - £4 for a curry, such as daal or chana massala. The garlic rice is also a favourite of mine. The staff are friendly and don't buzz around you, so there is a nice relaxed atmosphere. Generally this place does not attract the loud beer-guzzling Hammersmith Friday-night crowd, which is a plus (maybe that's because it's a veggie restaurant?) and they do good value for money lunch menu options. The decor is quite bright and warm, with smooth wooden tables and chairs - some people don't like this because of the lack of a 'private' feel, but for me it means that you know it's definitely very clean and they are not hiding dirt in any hidden-away dark corners.

Best South Indian food

This place really can be stunning. When it first opened, it had huge plate glass windows and very bright lights and was always empty, despite the quality of the food - my mother-in-law, who's a cookery writer and an Indophile who LOVES it here, made it her personal crusade to get them to dim the lights and soften the atmosphere and post their rave review in Time Out in the window, which they eventually did, slightly amused and bemused. Now they're deservedly busy. Because of the food. They still have things to learn about ambience. Don't sit near the stairs, for instance. For as long as it's been open, that part of the restaurant has always smelled of amazingly acrid cleaning chemicals.Puris for dessert are fabulous.

Great Indian food on a budget

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend and since then I have been many times in the past two years. Each time I have found the food delicious and the staff helpful. The food is made for sharing and we normally order two or three curries, some rice and naans and then eat to our stomach's content.

Fantastic veggie Indian food

Sagar has to be one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to, and I've been to a fair old few! Sagar only serves vegetarian food, which as a committed carnivore made me initially a bit apprehensive about trying the place initially but after one trip I was converted and it's now a regular haunt. This is excellent food - well cooked, well seasoned and extremely tasty - and the price is right too. Try it out!
