Friendly Staff, Average Food

Service

Quality

Value

I recently went to Sitaaray with a group of friends. We took advantage of a special deal on offer for curries and kebabs at 30% off. The staff were all quite friendly and I can't fault the location or atmosphere.. but the food was fairly average. That's not to say that there weren't some things that were pretty good - some of their kebabs were cooked perfectly and had good flavor. Their curries were not bad either (just not exceptional). There were a few misses -- a piece of fried paneer was fairly tasteless, a corn cake didn't do much for me, and there was a very strange lamb pattie served that almost seemed powdery in consistency if that is even possible. I suppose that in a country where Indian food is the number one cuisine and there is a lot of competition, I've just tasted a lot of exceptional Indian elsewhere. However - it was a nice place for a big group, the staff was friendly, and the 30% off deal certainly made it easy on our wallets. Sometimes it's a trade off. Had I paid full-price, I likely would not have been happy with the choice in restaurants.. but as it was, I think that it was a nice evening out, with decent food in the heart of Covent Garden.

Great time at Sitaaray *****

Last night we went with a group of friends to Sitaaray for our monthly get together. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. It's one of those tastefully done up theme restaurants in Londo. The interior catches your attention the moment you are in. But what impressed us the most was their service; they have a team of warm and humble staff who serves you. Everyone in our group was nicely looked after. Even the food was a big hit with all of us. The server helped us in taking the right decision in ordering the dishes as per our liking. Over all we had a fantastic time being there, enjoyed the food, the ambience and the hospitality. We all are surely going back there and recommend it to all those looking for great place to enjoy good food and service.

Do not waste your money

I went here for a friend's birthday and what a disappointment. The service was extremely slow and the range of food was awful. True, it is all you can eat but you would not want to in this bad place. The only food they offered were ranges of kebabs (meat and veggie) and cheese in sauce. Since I don't eat cheese I asked what else was available and they gave me more of the same kebabs. So I effectively paid £18 for kebabs(the normal price for the all you can eat dinner for one). These kebabs in themselves were too dry, overcooked and very sugary. I believe there were also some onion bahjis and samosas for starters. The dinner is not a buffet, so you need to ask the waiter to bring the food, which you have to wait ages for after you have made the request and each portion they bring is very small, so you spend most of your time waiting for your food rather than eating it. Of course, drinks were on top of this. A total waste of time and money - especially when there are so many other better (and cheaper!) Indian restaurants.

Good cocktails, ok food

Service

I came to Sitaaray with high expectations, having read the raving reviews elsewhere. The atmosphere did not disappoint, with Bollywood posters, memorabilia and videos on the walls. Ordering the £18.50 all you can eat kebab menu, all was good. The food was fine to begin with, the fish kebabs being particularly well cooked and tasty. However, the meat kebabs were very sweet and a bit sickly after you've had a few. I thought that we might have caught them on a bad night, but from the other reviews it seems this is par for the course. Service was very good and we never had to wait for anything - the food just kept on coming. The range of cocktails is very good and well worth a visit on its own. So in summary - yay for the atmosphere, cocktails, value and service, and nay for the food.

Awful!!

As an Indian myself, I find it difficult to find any restaurant which will be better than my mum's cooking. I was recommended this place by work colleagues. After checking out there menu I was quite interested. Once arriving we were quickly seated, there are a number of seating levels, with the place being filled with Bollywood star photos everywhere and funky chandeliers and interior. With TV's screens showing Bollywood music videos. Once seated, I was expecting a menu similar to the one on the website. I was disappointed when we were told there is only the array of kebabs, either vegetarian or non-veg. We opted for the vegi option, and where given a range of various veggie kebabs. The food however was awful, very sugary, we could tell they used sugar/salt to enhance the flavours. Which is not good, nothing traditional Indian about the food we had, it kept coming with various grilled vegetables in various coatings. The food was expensive and not worth it at all. The only thing I found good where the various range of cocktails which were nice. If your a veg eater you may dislike the food from this place.

Indian food Bollywood style!

As mentioned in another review, my palate is not used to the various explosions of tastes and flavours you get when visiting an Indian restaurant. But this doesn't stop me from being a fan of Bollywood movies! The songs, the dancing, I'm a sucker for that kind of things… So… the day I went to Sitaaray , the least I can say is that I had mix-feelings... I took me a few minutes to take in the settings (the place looked great and had a very distinctive feel!) The "Autographed" pictures decorating the walls, the background music, the vibrant colours and the screens scattered around showing various movies... So kitsch and yet so nice! But, what about the FOOD?We were a group of 6 and were seated on the balcony, (great for privacy whilst still giving you a good overall view of the restaurant). Our very nice waiter explained that their speciality (the “Indian Grill") was like a taster menu where anything brought to the table could be re-ordered as many times we wished. Once the dishes started coming, this quickly became the opposite of what I recognised as Indian cuisine.Starters were more like Indian tapas: chicken, lamb, salmon, vegetables, everything was delicately flavoured, herbs and spices all perfectly balanced. Then various curries came with their side dishes...Small portions kept coming one after the other (starters were a great success) and we ate very well but no space was left for dessert. Here everything is small enough for you to re-order or even try things you may not have ordered otherwise.(great for indecisive eaters or groups...)If you were an "Indian cuisine aficionado" you might already have your favourite joint anyway but I would still recommend you try this place for the shear exuberance and the originality! Do get there with an appetite… The Indian grill menu is really worth the £19.50 and although drinks aren't cheap, by adding a bottle or two of wine you would just end up paying the average price for a good meal in the West end. Sitaaray : 4 points (en français, of course!)
