About

The décor is luxuriously warm with its vibrant colour choice and evokes Indian culture with decorated pieces and ornamental items including a famous painting which has been painted on the back wall surrounded by a fountain and high arched frame. The main restaurant floor is very spacious and looks even more spacious with its high arched ceiling complimented with a gold plated chandelier. As soon as you enter the restaurant you are welcomed into a chic, modern and yet contemporary bar area, which contrasts with the rest of the restaurant décor.

The menu consists of all the classical dishes you would find throughout India and is served alongside more contemporary creations. The menu is vast and has a lot of choice each dish explained clearly.

The company prides itself on its quality of cuisine, the luxurious décor and its emphasis on Customer Service Satisfaction, which has made this restaurant one of the most popular one's in a short space of time.

It is one of the biggest Indian restaurants in the North East and on the main floor it covers 80 seats and a Private function room, which can seat around 27 people. Its customers are predominantly from the South Shields area but it does however attract customers from all over the North East.

The company also has a Takeaway facility and is keen on highlighting this on the website as majority of the companies business derives from this source.

Although the Spice 1 is approximately 2 miles from Ocean Road (Known for its many restaurants on one road), it is still very much affected by competition.

The restaurant is also very Disability friendly, a ramp allowing you to enter the building, very spacious setting to move around and Disabled toilets. The company is very keen on promoting this in the website.

this is a lovely restaurant out of the town centre. the ambience is great. considering i have eaten in every curry house in south shields i would say the food here is very good, but not the best. overall this is one of the best indian eateries and anyone who wants a nice evening with lovely food should give it a try.

this place was recommended to me by a work colleague and so i decided to take the family. we went on a thursday night, didnt need to book and got a table despite being quite busy. we were welcomed by one of the waiters who was so friendly, he bought our drinks over and we placed our order. the waiter recommended a few dishes we should try and so i took the recommendation and the kids stuck with their usualy korma and the wife ordered prawn roghan josh, I usually have a vindaloo but the waiter recommended a podeena zhal murgh, and some popadoms to start with. the atmosphere was very pleasant, the decor was modern and they served the food in trolleys which i thought was quite professional. the food didnt take long to arrive and when it did, we all tucked in to a very very very delicious meal, mine was out of this world. my tongue was experiencing so many flavours whilst being hot, it was rich and i was very impressed.the waiter came round and asked how things were going.....so just to cap it off, i write this review with high recommendations to anyone....if your after quality food and excellent service then this is definately the place to eat!!im going for my takeaway now!!

We often call in for a special occasion, birthday or anniversary and when we feel we need cheering up. The service is excellent, you never have to wait long for a table even if you call in without a reservation, the waiters will do their best to find a table. On our anniversary we went along hoping for a table but they were fully booked so we were going to have a takeaway instead but when the manager found out it was our anniversary he brought a table from somewhere and we had our meal there. We use Spice one all the time even for take aways. The menu choice is amazing and they cater for vege's with different dishes. I don't think they could improve any of the services they offer. The staff are lovely and friendly and the service is brill. Everyone should give Spice One a try but don't be like us make sure you book so that you are not disappointed. we make sure we book now.
