I HAVE SPENT MORE THAN £1000 BUT THE CAR STILL HAS SO MANY ISSUES. THEIR AFTER-SALE GUY NAMED MIKE IS AN EXTREMELY RUDE PERSON. IN SIMPLE WORDS IF YOU BUY A CAR FROM THEM AND IT TURNS UP FAULTY THEN THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN RETURN IT BACK AND GET YOUR MONEY!!!!! THESE PEOPLE KNOWGLY HIDE THE FAULTS TO TRICK YOU.

Omg. Well where do I start but will skip straight to the end!! I got a full refund, yay and thanks Mike. Car is now for sale again (£1500) more than I paid for it and all fixed apparently. This day and age how do they think they call sell unsafe, unreliable Vehicle's. I am sure sometime soon they will get visited by trading standards or equivalent. Thanks but NO Thanks🐍

I bought a car from Sterling cars and not only did I not receive an exceptional deal, but the after-sales service was also first-rate, Justyn is a wonderful person. I'm now looking for a car for my partner. If you have any issues. Speak to Justyn. You will not be disappointed.

Bid up own cars

Service

Quality

Value

There staff (coke head staff members) set up eBay i.d.s to bid up there own cars. All cars they get are car auction rejects so will have many problems. They also get dodgy mots as shown below by 100s of other unhappy customers (bald tyres/drop links hanging out but new mot??) Even tho positive reviews on here are 99% by them. 8000+ sales on eBay with a 95% feedback rating. This isn’t a true reflection but eBay allow it and the fake bids as they pay a premium for all the cars sold. If going to buy a car from a dealer-find one with good reviews or save money and buy private. You could do worse and buy from Sterling cars aka cars with no reserve......but be warned 😳

Bidding up the Price

Service

Quality

Value

Just read through the reviews and i surprised now people expect perfect cars read the ad it tells you there are most likely problems hence price. but one thing that also comes up is the belief that the company is inflating the auction price below is how the law stands on it in the UK. Trading standards officers warn it is illegal to push up a price artificially by bidding against yourself or by getting family or friends to do so. The process is known as shill bidding and breaks new European Union fair trading rules. Offences carry a maximum fine of £5,000 in UK law.

Liers and cheats...

Service

What to say that hasn't been said already. I have bought two cars before and as it has never been a pleasurable experience I got good cars (after some initial problems and repairs) for good value. This time it was a different experience. After first confirming that the car was good to go and I could collect this obnoxious and unpleasant guy called me up and took the "the car has developed a bottom end knock, what do you want to do". As I've had plenty of Volvo's and happened to look at this exact car at the BSA site before they bought it - in November - I decided to not be fooled and said that I still wanted to come and look at it before making up my mind and that I found it strange they didn't know this already. He then said that they had just got the car from BSA and that they only found out now because they prepared the car for me. Bear in mind that I just called them less than 40 minutes before to confirm collection for 3 days later... I'm sure their not that effective and as the car has been listed 4 times before since November (possible more, I only bid 4 times before) I found it even stranger... I've heard a fib and a wriggle before so quite sure there is nothing wrong with the car. So when I said I still wanted to come he started taking louder and saying I then had to buy the car with the bottom end knock as he had now informed me of the fault. I said that according to his website the only thing I need to do to fulfill my end of the bargain is to contact them within 24 hours, tick, and show up to view the car before deciding for any reason if I want it or not. He wouldn't have it and wanted me to decide there and then if I wanted it. With this idiot breathing down the phone and obviously didn't want me to buy it I felt even more like I should just go but as I live 150 miles away and have a busy schedule I don't want to go all that way to that hornets nest to prove a point. I've bought loads of cars on ebay and 99% of them have been pleasant experiences and my advice is to buy the seller and not the car. Most people that are not car dealers i.e. normal people. Honestly describe their car and to be honest put them down rather than talk them up, but my experience is that most dealers shy away from showing negative stuff and take pictures that hide rather than show after polishing the car to the best sunday best. If you want a good car for decent money do your homework and don't trust anyone. If a private seller sell his car, just check that its up to scratch with its servicing and that he has a genuine reason for sale i.e. new car/company car etc. and you will walk away with a fair deal on a good car. No dealer EVER give away a car so if its "cheap" there is a reason. Stirling Cars is just one of the worst of a bad lot, go private as the warranties etc. you get from dealers is worth jack shit and they charge through the nose for it.

I've just bought a jaguar xf and drove it back to Glasgow from Reading. The car has a few issues - driver window doesn't work, no door on the fuel cover etc - and it was filthy and smelly - BUT - it cost a fraction of what I would've paid elsewhere. It makes me laugh that people want cars in showroom condition for bargain prices! They make it clear - its sold as seen. It's a chance you take, however, after a small amount of money and a good valet, the cars amazing. I messed the guy about a bit but he was great to deal with - really accommodating. I'd def recommend and will be back! Cheers

My father purchased a range rover from them and parted with over 12k. 1 day after picking up the dirty unvaleted car (which also had 2 electrical issues) it broke down on the motorway and after a week trying to contact sterling they asked to return the car for repair. The repair was successful (new intercooler) but the car was not well looked after and photos did not show this. It would have been better to buy from elsewhere tbh especially when parting with a lot of cash.

Gave them negative feedback so they opened an unpaid case against me!

Service

Quality

On 9 May 2019, I bid on and won an auction for a Kia Sedona '08 LS that was advertised as having no MOT test certificate, but did so because 1) they advertised that they would MOT it (subject to their (unpublished) T&C) 2) because they advertised that one could cancel the purchase, and 3) because of all they apparently positive feedback on eBay, some of which must be genuine, but I now think a lot of it is bogus. I usually pay £29.50 for an MOT with F1 Autocentres but was prepared to pay the full MOT fee (£54.85)... they wanted £195! Their spiel to justify this was that they would pay whatever it took to get the car through the MOT, ie: if the car needed a new tyre, they would pay for this, and if it needed more serious (more expensive < £140) work doing to it to pass the MOT test, they would pay it. I was not prepared to 'invest' £195 on a 'swings and roundabouts' gamble (the car may have 'sailed' through the MOT without any problems (assuming the test would have been genuine)) and I would have paid £195 for an MOT on top of the bid price! So I cancelled the order. They subsequently auctioned the car again and sold it. Two weeks after I cancelled the order (and a week after they sold it) I gave them the following feedback... '£195 to MOT it so cancelled purchase. Google 'Sterling Cars' B4 bidding!' (The Google search brings up this page, of course.) Bearing in mind that I cancelled the purchase by mutual agreement and they had by this time sold the car, they then opened an 'Unpaid' case against me with eBay! Happily, I successfully appealed this and eBay have removed the demerit from my account. Sterling Cars, Reading (eBay ID: 'carswithnoreserve') ONLY TAKE PAYMENT by cash or Bank Draft. They DO NOT accept payments via PayPal! WHY NOT??? Answer... because eBay do not provide any protection or mediation or guarantee for goods paid for by these methods. They DO NOT accept payments by debit or credit cards! WHY NOT??? Answer... because Banks & CC companies are legally obligated to protect purchases made with these under 'Double Indemnity'! I have since bought a '07 Kia Sedona 'TS' from a private seller. I paid £100 more for it (£1120) knowing that I would probably have to spend around another £900 on it to get a decent set of wheels, and this has proved to be the case. But I bought it with my eyes open from a seller who was genuine and sincere, and that makes all the difference to me! Insofar as eBay is concerned... had anyone else found it impossible to contact them with problems and complaints? It seems that sellers can open a BOGUS 'Unpaid' claim against buyers, but eBay won't get involved with the buyers when payment due circumvents their internal processes! ANOTHER REASON WHY Sterling cars prefers Cash or Band Draft!!!

After 110 mile trip, car seriously not as described, infact they do not even give a real description except ‘excellent condition’. Brakes worn, seriously dangerous, dirty, and absolutely no power. After went to the hut and waited for the admin guy, I observed the process: 1/ dirty cars come in 2/ quick jet clean 3/ quick stop -fix - team - add fuels - liquids - diagnosis - quell smokes - quick check 4/ car parked up The car i won on ebay, came straight off a trailer. Was driven by some guy in a car, and ended up in a huge mud park. Hundreds of cars parked up. Amyway, the guy, think Tom 🤔, offered a discount. Distance take it gladly. Lost a hundred pound on the journey. Not pleased.

What a total waste of time. I'm a car trader and won what to be fair was a cheap disco td5 which I wanted for myself. Travelled 120 miles to collect as per their hype you are not under any pressure to buy, got the keys and got left to my own devices to drive check etc. This is where it got annoying... Car had been sold before, invoice left in vehicle and had been returned for gearbox fault. Car still had gearbox fault even though not included anywhere in the listing, maybe an oversight?.... NO. I found the fault to be told they had a new gearbox fitted already and they'd have it fixed as they'd already paid for it to be done. Once it was done I could pick it up. All agreed. Relisted a few days later and again fault undisclosed and car made more money, just waiting for the right mug to come along. Understand they need to turn cars and make money, but there is a line called honesty.

I really hope you are reading all these comments BEFORE buying from these jokers. To reiterate, they most definitely have a series of accounts that they use to bid up the prices and they have no idea of the condition or faults on any car they advertise as they don't appraise the vehicles they have for sale. Very misleading. Very expensive mistake if you trust their adverts. I personally wasted over £100 and 14 hours traveling to collect a Saab they'd never even seen and described as as a 'superb example' hmm. Blown turbo, no power, rattly dual mass flywheel, absolutely comedy muddy (stored in field I guess) Guys in office best part of useless and can't even think of any excuses for treating customers like idiots. these con men are still trading.I travelled 600 mile round trip to be another of their victims. The car I won on ebay was advertised as in good condition with parking sensors and a towbar. It was scratched right down both sides with no towbar or sensors. I was told the boss had mixed it up with another car they had for sale and they would sell it to me for £200 more than the original car. On inspection this car was covered underneath from front to back with oil, had no logbook or MOT. Needless to say I bought none of them. I reported them to ebay but they said as he is a powerseller they are reluctant to do anything. His cars should be advertised in the gardening section under sheds.

Car dealership putting profit before honesty and custimer care

I purchased an Audi A3 from Sterling Cars using eBay. I won the auction and travelled more than 500 miles to collect and pay for the vehicle. Here are my complaints. 1. The car had substantial cracks on the windscreen and it has to be replaced. The extent of the damage renders the windscreen illegal. The response from the staff member, and I quote, was "Is there a crack? We didn't notice it." They told me they would reduce the price of the car by £30 but this was only if I agreed to cancel the auction on ebay once I had paid for the car in person. As a long-standing ebay user, the effect of this is that Sterling Cars avoid paying fees to ebay or payment platforms such as Paypal. In my case they would have been paying fees in excess of £300. Cancelling the item also means Sterling Cars are not bound by the terms and conditions of eBay or payment platforms such as Paypal. This would include fully refunding unhappy customers if vehicles advertised for sale are not accurately described. 2. The car was described as being "One female owner". Once I received the registration documents and service history I have found that the car was owned by two people, one of them male. These are two examples of Sterling Cars being dishonest to help sell their vehicles. If they were bound by eBay rules, I would be eligible for a full refund or they would have to reimburse some costs. I believe I have got off lightly but I worry that others have been conned in the past. I urge potential buyers to view the car in person and to take someone with you who has an in-depth knowledge of cars. In an ideal world the customer would come first and could rest assured that they are buying what they are told.

I bought a Citroen C4 Coupe from them end of May this year, I have never been so disappointed with a vehicle in my life. I paid what was to me a very huge amount of money. The car didn't have loads of mileage and I have not put much on it since, but I have had no end to trouble with the car and have thus far spent almost as much on trying to keep the car on the road as I bought it for initially. Now I am by no means unreasonable with these sorts of things and know that cars do break. But I have now reached a point where I have spent all savings and there seems no way to fix the problems, much more than the £400 margin of faults rectification they say you would need. I have been to numerous specialists with the car and even they can't seem to find out what the problem is with the car. Today after spending around £1500 the car just wouldn't start at all. And now I am stuck, I have no more money, I can't sell a broken car, I have a non working vehicle and there seems nowhere to turn. And now by reading other reviews on them I feel it wouldn't even benefit contacting them, as they aren't helpful at all. I experienced this when I bought the car too. It has left me livid and it seems hugely unfair that they can sell cars like this to the public. They have no email address to contact them only phone numbers and I like to have complaints in writing so I know what was said. I can't even complain to eBay as they voided the transaction to save on sellers fees. Yes I feel like an idiot because of my stupidity to buy from them and needed to warn people the only way I can. BUYERS BEWARE OF STERLING CARS

frausters shill bidding closed down by Ebay?

Bidding on a prestige 4x4 and with 10min to go a new bidder pushed the price right up then retracted inflating my winning bid considerably. The "Shill" was bidding on 8 of their prestige cars and had extensive history of withdrawn bids. EBAY security acknowledged the problem and reading Trading Standards have been engaged.

the car I had was an absolute disgrace compared to the listing, they said everything worked etc etc, which was a lie as they hadn't picked the car up and had not done a check on it, when I finally got it the electronic handbrake didn't work, abs and esp light on dashboard, cost me £95 to go to Peugeot for a diagnostic test, then £190 on parts, then got stopped by the police and had 4 illegal tyres and a further £240, the police are investigating and trading standards are going to turn up unannounced as a customer, love it !! but bloody disgusting they let cars like this on the road, as my wife and child could have driven the car and crashed and killed, as 1 tyre had gone through 2 layers of steel reinforcement, hope they get arrested

I've had one good experience, which caused me to go back, unfortunately then had a vehicle absolutely nothing like it was described at all. So I thought ok a bit of bad luck I won't rule them out it happens, then I bought what looked like a nice car on 23 Dec 14. I contacted them and was told it's still at auction and we will have it on 3 January 15 . Then on 5 Jan I called and asked where's the car? I was told oh sorry we don't know when it might be here on the 7th. On 7 th no joy so I cancelled. They apologised but got to be honest they don't give a Sh😞t. Now here is the shocker.......I bought an 06 plate volvo XC 90 following the disaster above. It was advertised as they do very nice car blah blah and only needing a wheel bearing., 86,000 mls So I bid and won and off I went the 160 mile round trip. The vehicle had 3 defective tyres, broken n/s mirror glass, park brake not holding, boot / rear door handle not working. The vehicle was no where near as described in the advert. KEEP READING IT GETS WORSE. So I go into their little hut and have a chat with a guy called Tom. I explain the defects to him. He then told me they sell cars on behalf of someone they know and it's his car he will call him. So I'm present when a call is made to the owner by Tom who explains the defects and hands me the phone. I have a 20 second conversation and negotiate a 400 discount taking the price to a round £6k. I get the car home, book it into my local garage to have full service carried out and replace the wheel bearing. My Valeter goes to the garage to valet the vehicle. Notices something very suspicious ( can't disclose what it was) the vehicle I bought had information secreted in the vehicle that was proof the vehicle had done 117,676 miles on 2-9-2010 and probably 70,000 + since then. I at once called Sterling cars Tom informed me he would get straight onto the guy he was selling it for, Tom also disclosed he sold around 20 cars a week for this guy. I explained to Tom . 1. I have an invoice from the car on Headed Paper from Sterling Cars. 2. I Paid Sterling Cars they sold itto me, I should deal only with them. I later got a call from some bloke telling me he asked Tom to sell the car and excepted if the car was clocked he knew nothing about it. I asked him for a refund, he said He had no money and I should deal with Tom. He then said, I can return the car to him, he would re sell the car and give me what he gets for it, I explaind the car is worth half what I paid if he is honest and declairs the true mileage. He again advised me to deal with Tom. So I updated Tom who gave me all the crap about the mileage warning. The information on their adverts is not strictly true and this was told to me by Trading Standards, the seller has obligations and especially if it is quickly brought to their attention the car sold was clocked. I can't for legal reasons explain what is going to happen next. But it is now in the hands of my solicitor, Trading Standards and....HMRC. Who will no doubt be checking on several vehicles this company have sold and how they manage to put 20 vehicles a week belonging to someone else through their books taking payment . They also asked me when I bought a car if the could inform ebay the sale didn't complete. Was this either done to get out of ebay fees or to avoid tax or both. PLEASE PLEASE if your after a cheap banger ok take a chance. If you want a decent car don't get caught out like I did. I wouldn't go near these cheats with a barge pole. If you get a good car from them consider yourself very lucky. Also be very aware if you see really good feedback they do have SME people working for them who will no doubt try and make them look good by stating they bought a car when infact they didn't and only work for them. I have sent 5 messages to them today prior to writing this mail, they were all polite and short. I got no replies. You deal with these people you are taking a big risk.

Caveat Emptor

Have dealt with this company before and was quite satisfied as the description of the vehicle and photographs made it less risky to pick up a half decent car albeit they mainly deal in high mileage vehicles. The descriptive process used by the company has now changed, they no longer show lots of pictures and give a quick description. Given the company actually deal with the trade end of the market they also pointedly target the public because the prices can be very alluring, they deal in high turnover low margins, as a business model i have no issue they publish a huge list of what to expect when your dealing with them you also have the option to walk away without finalising the purchase. In my opinion it is what they omit from their description that is troublesome to me When you buy a car at a physical auction you can walk around checking whatever you need to check bodywork condition, scratches etc, All UK Auction sites display large on the windscreen of the car salient details such as. Any declarations such as change of number, service record if any. Importantly all the major auction houses display on this said notice any additional information such as dash warning lights vosa info and any change of reg Auction houses do this as it is a requirement of trading standards. With Sterling cars that information is not available until your physically standing next to the car. If you have traveled a long way at considerable expense and find something on the card that you do not consider to be something you would want in your purchase it can be very daunting and frustrating, yes you can walk away but walking away may mean finding your way home plus all the costs and inconvenience that you may incur. So come on Sterling cars do the job right if your aiming your sales at internet users they need even more information importantly you should show a picture of the Auction information displayed on the screen it is simple enough to do you may even be contravening trading laws by not disclosing such information. Summary would i use Sterling cars again, ......probably, i have bought before and might do again if your not sure of a car do the homework you could probably ask for this auction house information to be available to you before you travel. Incidentally i was served by the kid who was having a bad day at the end of what was probably a long shift i am giving him the benefit of the doubt he was obtuse and arrogant insisted on taking the company line which is "WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FOR THE MONEY" a no frills operation don't expect service of any kind. its what they don't say you have to look out for. If ever the phrase Caveat Emptor applied it is with Sterling cars be wary!
