Located on Lower Marsh, close to Waterloo railway station, this low key restaurant is very popular as a lunch stop for local workers. This restaurant has a very relaxed feel (you do not have to use chopsticks for instance!) and is great value for money if you go for a set-lunch menu. Decor is a little dated, but for the prices they charge it's expected. I can recommend the Bento boxes but the sushi is also good, and for a filling, cheap bite, go for yakisoba. If there's one negative, it's that the staff appear to be so busy that they can come across as distant rather than friendly.

Nestled in the buzzing market alley, Lower Marsh is a fine, fine Japanese restaurant that puts Wagamama and the fast food Jap clip joints to shame. The food is fresh. The prices reasonable and the ambiance low-key and unhurried. One gripe tho - the new lighting makes the place look like a submarine. Previously they had umbrella lamp-shades which were cosy and added a softened hue. Now the glare is cold, blue and a little bit freaky. Lunch-times are heaving here mainly because of the tasty sushi and sashimi lunch boxes they whip up in a trice. At under £7 they're good value. The sushi is excellent and won't flatten you wallet. Some of the side dishes are also top notch - spring rolls - chicken with lemon - edame beans - they're all good. They also serve excellent Japanese green tea for £1.50 a pot. I wish this place was my local I'd be there everyday.
