I have been to Taj Mahal twice before and have had a good experience both times however I went last night with my girlfriend and i was disgusted with the attitude of the staff. Halfway through our meal my girlfriend found 3 hairs in her rice and obviously couldn't eat any more, i also didn't fancy the rest of mine either. When i brought this to the attention of the waiter he stated that this was probably a woman's hair and since there were no women working there it couldn't have been them. I couldn't believe his ignorance and so asked for the manager who i was expecting a little more sympathy and understanding from. Unfortunately even though he was slightly understanding and actually said 'sorry' at one point, he was not keen on reducing our bill, and offered us another curry as a replacement, as i explained to him that was the very last thing we wanted given the standard of the first one. I am not unreasonable and don't expect a free meal as accidents do happen, what i do expect is that when something like this happens the waiters/owner are apologetic and that i leave feeling that we have paid a fair price for the standard of food we ate.It took a long discussion with the owner to get anywhere near this and by that time half the restaurant knew about it and we were very uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. If he had apologised and knocked half the bill off straight away i would have left happy and would have returned to the restaurant. As it happened i was made to feel like it was our fault and he eventually knocked £8 off. I left fuming at the ill manners and poor service that we received and will never set foot in that restaurant again.

Great Indian Food Served Here!!!!

Along with The Maharaja in Northwood, this is the joint top Indian restaurant that I have had the pleasure of dining at. It can be quite expensive, however worth the price as portions are generous and always fresh. Restaurant size is good and business is always thriving which speaks volumes in itself. Finer details observed here are good, the place is clean, and the food is always served hot (temperature that is!!) and service is good too. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare but you can always find somewhere nearby if you don't mind a 2 minute walk, however it's definitely worth it.Or leave the car at home, it's not far from the centre of town. Did you know? This was the first Indian restaurant opened in the East Midlands.
