The Taj Mahal is the oldest Indian restaurant in Putney. Established in 1964, we were one of the founding restaurants to bring authentic Indian cuisine to London. Our restaurant has always been family owned and we are immensely proud of our history.
We attribute our longevity to serving delicious unpretentious food using only the freshest ingredients. We also remain true to time-honoured Indian culinary techniques and at the heart of our kitchen is our traditional clay based tandoori oven. Although we have won numerous awards over the years, our greatest satisfaction has, and always will be, a satisfied customer.
After more than half a century with a classic Riverboat down the Ganges interior décor, we have recently undergone a major refurbishment to bring the Taj Mahal into the 21st century. However, while the décor may have changed, our commitment to serving the freshest and most authentic Indian cuisine in London remains. We welcome you to share this experience with us.

This is slightly overdue, but this is a restaurant I have been going to for over a year and I definitely recommend it. The place is small and has a cosy and friendly atmosphere. The staff are very helpful and attentive, it is a well run family business. Their food is delicious and freshly cooked and also very good value for money. It is one of the few places in London you can sit, relax and have a brilliant meal that is not over priced, but high in quality.

Have been ordering from and visiting Taj Mahal for many years. On this occasion I ordered a few old classics for an ;evening after hangover; curry! Onion Bhajee, Chicken Tikka Masala, Pialu Rice and Keema Naan. All absolutely delicious! Well worth a takeaway or visit to this Putney classic. My only suggestion would be to offer complementary papadums with takeaways
