Welcome

We have a Bunkhouse/Lodge which sleeps up to 20 people in 4 separate rooms each with 1 double bed and 3 singles. We also have 3 Bothies/Cabins that sleep 8 people in 2 separate rooms each with 4 single bunks and an en suite shower room. Within the Bunkhouse is a pool table. On site is a sauna, cycle store/wash, kids play area and a pond There is a woodland bar area with bbq, seating, fairy lights and fire pits.

Our purpose-built eco-holiday settlement evolved as part of a regional initiative to support sustainable local communities and is perfectly situated amid the rugged landscape of the Northumberland National Park. Tarset Tor sits comfortably in its surroundings, providing thoughtfully planned 21st-century accommodation to guests looking to explore this rich and diverse area, delighting, families, groups and adventure junkies alike.

Our knowledge of the local area means we can suggest and organise activities to suit every taste, including fishing, horse riding, quad biking, golf tours, survival skills courses and adventure breaks. We specialise in group bookings; our versatile Bunkhouse can be transformed into the perfect venue for an extended family gathering, social or inspirational corporate event. Catering options available upon request.

Tarset Tor is ideally situated for a wide range of activities, being in close proximity to Kielder mountain bike trails, the Reivers Cycle Route, 7Stanes network and River Tyne fishing, as well as the famous coast-to-coast byway, Pennine Way and a superb selection of golf courses.

The stylish Bunkbarn is a superb social space, offering comfortable, contemporary sleeping quarters for 16/20 guests in 4 separate rooms, together with cooking, eating, showering and lounge facilities. The incredibly versatile floor plan can be quickly adapted to create a welcoming venue for family events, conferences and parties. A south-facing covered veranda spans the length of the building, capturing the best of the sun and providing additional al fresco space.

Our self-contained Bothy holiday homes enable guests to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Tarset Tor in a more private setting. Each Bothy features an open-plan living space with efficient wood-burning stove, along with a kitchen and 2 en suite shower rooms, plus flexible accommodation for 8 people in two bedrooms on the mezzanine level. A veranda affords stunning vistas which extend to neighbouring Scotland.

We specialise in Whole Site bookings with 44 bed spaces and hook-ups for up to 5 campervans and a small amount of tent pitches with give a site capacity of up to 70 – making Tarset Tor the ultimate glamping destination for your group event. Neighbouring the site is the local village hall which can be hired as well. Just ask for details for catering and activity options.

A greener approach to tourism

Employing a sustainable approach to tourism to preserve the beautiful Northumbrian landscape for future generations to enjoy is at the heart of Tarset Tor's ethos. We work hard to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum, using renewable resources, recycling, buying locally and encouraging the use of greener forms of transport in our everyday lives.
We also have an on site bottle bin.

The Bunkhouse and Bothies are modern, light and airy and are built from sustainably sourced cedar with highly insulated wall and ceiling cavities. The development uses the latest in eco-technology, incorporating a heating system derived from wood pellet biomass boilers which benefit from a Government backed renewable heat incentive. Our campervan hookups can be converted to recharge electric cars.

The area around Tarset Tor has England's clearest skies – making it the ideal spot from which to gaze at the stars. The Northumberland National Park is now a Gold Tier International Dark Skies Park. The superb facility at Kielder Observatory has already become one of the most popular attractions in the region.

We are self catering accommodation in the Northumberland National Park/Dark Skies Park near Kielder Water and Forest Park. Centrally located for exploring the region. Suitable for Bikers and Hikers, Birthday Parties, Family Gatherings, Stag and Hen Do's and School Groups. We have a total of 44 bed spaces in 4 buildings - 1 which sleeps 20 and the other 3 sleep 8. We are situated in 5 acres of idyllic countryside with panoramic views and our on-site facilities include a children's' play area, bird hide/sauna, a woodland bbq and bar area and a wildlife pond. At Tarset Tor, you can also book various activities and catering options to make your holiday/event even more memorable.
