The Academy of Musical Theatre is an independently owned performing arts school for children aged 4 to 18 years old. At AMT we deliver dance and performance arts training whilst building confidence and life skills in a fun environment. The Academy of Musical Theatre is perfect for initial training for a future career in the arts or just for fun.

Our School

Run by local, professionally trained teachers, The Academy of Musical Theatre provides fun filled classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern and Musical Theatre for all abilities, each Saturday during term time. Our students have the opportunity to be entered for examinations in Modern, Tap and Ballet via the ISTD. We perform one professionally produced, fully costumed musical theatre production annually at a theatre on the South coast.

Classes for ages 4 to 6 years

We offer three different classes for students in this age group: Musical Theatre (9.30am - 10.30am): Students will be encouraged to explore the three disciplines of musical theatre - drama, dance and singing. This enjoyable and engaging class lays down the foundations of musical theatre technique in an accessible, welcoming and friendly environment. Ballet (10.30am - 11.15am): Ballet is the basis of all dance training. Within this session we aim for the students to understand the importance of strong core stability, whilst also having great fun. Tap (11.30am - 12.15pm): Tap dancing is widely recognised as the most rhythmic style of dance. It teaches students a variety of skills and techniques which are easily transferrable into musical theatre performance. Tap can also create a lot of noise, which makes it incredible fun to be a part of!

Musical Theatre Classes (ages 7 - 18 years)

Our musical theatre classes run on a Saturday afternoon between 12.45pm and 4.30pm and consist of 45 minutes of singing, 45 minutes of drama and 45 minutes of dance. We also like to develop the students' inter-disciplinary skills so some weeks will combine the classes. The timings of the classes depend on which age group your child is in. Dance (Ballet, Tap, Modern)

We offer classes in three different dance styles at AMT - Ballet, Tap and Modern. These classes take place on a Saturday morning. Students are grouped depending on their ability and experience.
