Great night out

The usual location of choice by my friends and me on a night out mainly because it's one of the few "nightclub" style places that doesn't charge entry. Be aware though that free entry does make the drinks a tiny bit more expensive than say, roper hall, but not by such an amount that it would stop us going! I wouldn't say this was a place I'd go to during the day for a drink... it's a bit too open and empty during the day for my liking. it's the kind of place that needs to be busy! though bar service is a nightmare when it's really busy. I don't think it's a good football watching location for this reason too- little TVs everywhere (there's usually 1 large screen but it can only be seen from certain areas so it a little pointless) and sparse seating make it a horrible place to go watch a footy game IMO but I know people do go there. Music varies over the course of the night mixing from cheesy tunes right though to modern chart stuff, R&B etc and even sometimes has 1/2 hour to an hour of dance music too (proper dance stuff, NOT the mild chart based kind!)... the DJ tries to cater for every possible music taste and I think this is managed very well. There are lots of pool tables for those that are interested and, due to the number of them, you can pretty much either walk straight up to a table and play or only have to wait a very short period of time.

cool trendy bar

the Assembly is a cool venue, refurbed with trendy sofas and cool chairs and stools. There is an upstairs complete with more trendy furnishings which make it a cool place to go at the weekend. Ths place gets packed out on a friday and saturday night so expect to stand up and chat. There are all the usual vodka shots and cool drinks and the music is loud and chart current. This used to be a corn exchange so the building is old with charater but its been done out in a modern way. The service is slow at the bar when busy as you would expect but fast during the day. There is often sports on during the day as there are large tv screens to watch it on. This is a good place to go and one of the busiest bars to be in before the main clubs kick in.
