Whether starting a first management role, a more senior role or joining a board, most people need to acquire new skills, or enhance existing ones, to succeed. Based on our experience, examples of such skills are: how to manage a team when previously you've used professional skills e.g. engineering, architecture, banking, how to delegate, how to start overseeing / thinking strategically Vs “doing the doing".
For both those new in post or already in situ the need to downplay (or stop), certain behaviours can also become apparent. Examples of this: lack of belief in their ability to manage, inability to challenge board members who were previously superiors, assuming requests for additional resource would be rebuffed (running a team into the ground consequently), getting results but in such an autocratic and discourteous manner Clients have complained and their team dislikes, even fears, them.
As HR Director: Group Talent Management at one Client put it “in these situations you can't just send someone on a course with seventeen other people and hope. You stop the world, focus on them and invest in coaching the individual".
Chris Dyson has been coaching for 12 years after a Managing Director level career. We've a corporate focus and Chris' slightly edgy, more challenging style is impactful and effective. Coachees tend to be mid-life, mid-career. One said “I wish I'd had this conversation 2 years ago....no, 5 years ago". Chris' coaching gives people that vital leg up at critical moments in their management and leadership development.

Chris was a great coach / consultant and I really enjoyed the interactions and fruitful discussions with him. The output was solid and reliable feedback which I continue to reflect upon and use regularly.
Client @GSK
Chris Dyson (The Big Blue Box) carried out some work for my organisation whilst I was HR Manager. It consisted of 'Bite Size Chunks' - short sessions to address hot issues selected by our supervisors. The idea of having short, focussed sessions worked very well for these busy people. Chris engaged really well with the people and they all found his approach participative and engaging as well as helping them to realise how to tackle the issues and share the problems with colleagues. I am happy to recommend Chris as a coach/consultant to any organisation.
