A very warm welcome by Heather and Steve as usual. Nothing too much trouble, they go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible.Accomodation is comfortable and reasonably priced and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area such as walking, driving through the mountains, seeing the waterfalls and of course eating and drinking!!The food is always fresh and excellent and the company is superb.Stayed here several times and will be going back again in the future as there is always a warm, friendly welcome ready and waiting.Angie, Coventry.

The most Fantastic Pub in the Brecon Beacons. Camped for three nights, very clean showers etc and lots of hot water!!The food in the pub is just wonderful,as are the staff, nothing is too much trouble. Makes a nice change to come across a pub with such high standards. You can expect a very warm welcome from Heather and also Spot the dog!! I will be making a return visit ASAP.Ian Davies MBE

I've visited the Castle Inn a couple of times of year for about 3 years now . . . it's a fantastic place to stay!Heather and Steve and their staff are warm, friendly people and can't do enough to please. Oh and don't forget Spot the dog - he's friendly too!The rooms are clean, comfortable and very cosy after a day out in the beautiful Welsh country side. Downstairs in the bar is very welcoming, there's a roaring fire in winter and there's always someone interesting to talk to; the locals are really friendly. The food is delicious - I highly recommend the Tropical Curry! I'm not a big drinker so I can't comment on the variety of ales! The surrounding countryside is absolutely breath taking so take your walking boots or mountain bike and enjoy! The only downside for me is that I have to leave!

Awful

We stayed at this place this weekend to do some walking in the Brecons. Never again! The accommodation is directly above the pub and at MIDNIGHT the god awful karaoke started. It was so loud in our room we had to shout to each other to be heard. We asked the owners how long it would go on for and were told as long as they wanted. When we asked when the were licensed until they told us to leave immediately! There we we were two girls at half midnight in the middle of absolutely no where and unsure if we were over the drink drive limit! After more hassle from the owners the police came and helped us escape! I have stayed in places all over the world and never seen anything like this! Avoid at all costs

I have stayed three times in the castle inn the last time was in November 2007 as a treat for my wife's birthday. We also took our 11 month old baby boy, this was a worry at first but we were soon made to feel very welcome by the owners and the locals. The place is a traditional inn with a nice log fire. The food is really excellent, I would recommend the stake and ale pie it is Delicious! If you are a vegetarian (the wife is) there is plenty to choose from as the landlady is a vegetarian and takes this aspect of the menu very seriously, no vege lasgne here! I would also recommend the hot stones were you cook your own food at the table on er, a hot stone! My favourite food for the stones was the swordfish- recommended! The rooms we stayed in were clean, comfortable and big enough to put up a travel cot! Bathroom and toilet facilities in our room were very clean. An earlier reviewer said there was a lot of noise. There was some noise from the pub below, but it did not disturb us and it did not wake up the baby who is a light sleeper! To sum upPluses:Good food & accommodation at reasonable price;Warm welcoming and friendly staff;ideal place for country pursuits walking, horse riding etc.Minuses:I can't honestly say there was any thing bad, I suppose you are in the middle of nowhere (but isn't that the reason for going in the first place?!) so if you need anything ie nappies!! you have a journey to the nearest supermarket. No T mobile phone signal!I would recommend the castle inn for a good break.

I too stayed at the Castle Inn on the night of Saturday 6 January - we stayed Friday Night as well. It was my second stay at the Castle Inn and third stay for some in my cycling group. Saturday Night was a fun lively night as both bunkhouses were full and there was a good friendly atmosphere - if i stay in a pub, i expect there to be some noise. The owners are always friendly and helpful to us and the food is always excellent, i can recommend the Castle Inn wholeheartedly. Best pub in the Black Mountains and brillantly hosted by Steve and Heather who I have come to know quite well. My group of MBS members have stayed there for 5 consecutive years and are already booked in for next year, this is because we know the pub and the locals and there's always a great atmosphere there. The food is excellent and the lava stone steak is the best I've ever had. A log fire, a folk group playing music all night and a wonderful aray of talented singers on the Kareoke - what more could you want! Oh and the bunkhouse is great too, always clean with great showers and useful drying room. So come along next year and meet the Colonel and the MBS and be sure to enjoy your selves unless you are a Ninja Turtle of course! The Colonel

Like many people, I stay at this B&B every time I visited the Beacons. The rooms are always immaculate, the service is excellent and the food is brilliant. The staff are always really friendly and the owners will bend over backwards to make your stay a happy one. Even the pub's dog 'Spot' is lovely. It's the perfect place to explore the beautiful Beacons scenery, eat a hearty meal and drink some local ale. Winner every time!Big thumbs Up.:-)
