About Us

The Dan Tien is Watford's friendliest performing arts school! Combining high standards with the most caring of atmospheres, we truly believe we have something different to offer. There are activities for the whole family, and as well as running a variety of dance, music and drama classes for children, we also provide a range of popular sessions for adults. Our belief is that everyone should have the opportunity to express themselves creatively, to keep fit, meet new people and just have fun!

The Dan Tien (meaning ‘energy centre') provides first-class training in a relaxed and caring atmosphere. A family-run business not part of a chain or franchise, we're extremely flexible and can adapt quickly to offer you a truly personal and tailor-made service. Although new on the scene (we have only been open since March 2009) we have years of teaching experience behind us, and have already proven extremely popular in the local community. In fact, some classes have filled up so quickly that we've rapidly needed to introduce new ones in order to keep up with demand.

Teachers and founders Nick, Lindsey and Amy all live locally, with the driving motivation of providing classes in the area which are accessible to all. So there's no joining fee, and you can even try out a class for free before you sign up. There's also lots of ways to save money by taking advantage of our generous multiple booking discounts.

The Dan Tien sets out to provide the best all-round class experience. Not only are classes fun and of a high standard, but capped class-sizes also ensure that no child is ever missed out or left behind. We strongly believe that children flourish when given individual attention, and we will always ensure that our classes are small enough to reflect this. Parents of children taking classes are looked after too, and are welcome to relax in the waiting area and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee on us - or come in and do a class themselves!

Ballet
Encompassing the magic of ballet with good basic technique, providing confidence and poise.

Tap
Make some noise with your feet! A fun way to get into dancing
Ages: From 4 (graded)

Musical Theatre
Theatrical, show stopping fun. A mix of dance, drama, singing and group games. Great for building confidence.
Ages: 4-7, 7-12

Street Dance
Be cool, be funky, be street. The latest music with the latest moves and routines
Ages: 4-7, 7-12

Modern
Modern Dancing is a highly energetic form of dance most often seen in musical productions and is well known for its theatrical qualities.
Ages: 4+ (graded)

Contemporary
A technical class that draws influence from many other styles of dance.There's lots of floor work,leaping and jumping. Children who find ballet too structured may well enjoy this class!
Ages 7+

Technical Jazz
A highly energetic technical class that is inspired by broadway and seen on TV shows, films, commercials and music videos.
Ages 7+

Company
Our junior company is a performance group. The children are selected from our other technical classes and have already shown a high level of commitment, professionalism and continued hard work.

Youth Theatre
The focus is mainly on drama, and children will be working towards putting on additional shows and performances throughout the year. It's lead by DT teachers Nick and Lindsey and is proving to be a massive hit with the children!

Contemporary Ballet
A mix of technical exercises and moving sequences suitable for those with some dance experience, or enthusiastic beginners!

Street Dance
Don't let the kids have all the fun - come and strut your stuff and get fit at the same time. This class is always bags of fun!
