I loved to be looked after
Splendid Hotel, super staff and a great view of the british seaside

the best as traditional haute cuisine
Without a doubt, eating at the grand feels special. The rooms are fantastically decorated, the service is old fashioned polite and incredibly posh ("jolly good" is a term often used). We got a table with ease, dress code is quite strict, but you'd feel out of place in jeans. A string quartet played in the corner of the room to add to the setting and the choice of wine is extremely extensive! I expected the food to be good but on first trying it i almost embarrassed myself by getting so excited! Classic divine dishes of heaven. I had the beef wellington followed by a creme brulee. You can tell each part of every dish has been thought about and tried and tested so many times until the flavours are just out of this world. Just dont forget it may feel a little restrained socially for some, as manners are of the highest english order.

Grand
The De vere Grand Hotel is a fine looking building on brighton sea front and we have tried to stay there twice without much luck really. On the first occasion we wanted to book as we were going to a party in town and thought we would treat our selves rather than pay the ridiculous taxi price we were quoted to get us home, but the day before our booking, the hotel had a plumbing break down and much of the hotel including the public areas was without heating and had to be closed while it was put right. Never mind we resolved to book and stay again only to find, months later that the night we wanted was booked up for the rooms we wanted. It was shocking to see that as we made our sober way home by car that night, that the de vere grand had, had a fire and all the guests were stood out on the street in their jim jams. I am not sure we will try to rebook a third night, shame though I bet it would have been good.

Oh dear de vere - Grand Incompetence
Tried to celebrate a milestone birthday there but they were unable to provide a suitable location or service that the cost of the event warranted. The food was passable but nothing special. Won't be returning.
