Tense shoulders and headaches

Just this week three people have contacted me, to ask for help with their headaches and neck stiffness. Headaches are something which can really be helped by hands on treatment. When they each came in for an assessment, I picked up that all of them have one shared habit. They all work long hours, and spend a lot of that time sitting using a keyboard. One of them told me she sits at home chatting to friends on Facebook in her free time, and another runs a web design business in his free time, which involves up to 3 hours an evening sitting using a laptop. As I palpated around their neck and shoulders, I could feel the build up of tension in the upper neck muscles and shoulders was intense. Within their muscles were trigger points. Local thickened areas of tension, which can feel like a solid band. These solid changed areas of muscles soften and almost appear to dissolve with deep tissue massage. 30 minutes working all around the neck, shoulders, and upper arms was enough to reduce the texture of the muscles to soft gelly. With the muscle spasm reduced I was then able to mobilise the neck joints, to give them the freedom and flexibility they wanted. A few exercise taught to encourage general flexibility, advice on relaxing, taking more exercise completed the first session About 3 or 4 visits over 4 weeks is usually enough to make the changes, and then perhaps a follow up session every month or six weeks, will keep those tension headaches away
