Restaurant - English in Brighton
21a Norfolk Square
Brighton
East Sussex
BN1 2PD
The Gingerman is owned by chef patron Ben McKellar and serves Modern European cuisine in a relaxing atmosphere and contemporary surroundings. The restaurant usually gets very busy and booking is advised.
We had a great meal here, and it was fairly priced for the quality of the food. We didn't have starters as I was desperate to try the baked Vacherin D'or cheese course, and I had a fantastic rib eye steak with duck fat chips, wilted spinach and hollandaise sauce for my main course. The restaurant itself is quite small, and has a 'living room' feel to it, as it's in a converted house, but it has a romantic and intimate atmosphere.Only small negative is that (on Saturdays at least) you only have the table for 2 hours, and if the next table turn up before you've finished, there's nowhere for them to wait so they get booted out (ok so it was phrased slightly more nicely than that!)

the roast venison with braised Savoy cabbage & potato gratin - was the best food I've had in a long time. It is at the bottom of Norfolk Square right next to where I live. We go there often to have Sunday lunch & I feel truly lucky for this! It also has friendly relaxed staff & a great wine list - try it!
