Unique to The Academy is the EDARA musicianship course, a syllabus we are championing as our piece-de-resistance - group classes which integrate an internal understanding and connection to music alongside the teaching of theoretical and technical knowledge. Those who graduate from this pioneering course will do so with the ability to understand everything they hear, compose, arrange and speak the language of music fluently.
Musicianship is the combination of skills that allow people to play, improvise and compose music by ear. It is sometimes referred to as 'musical sense; or 'having an ear for music'. Players with strong musicianship can play tunes immediately after hearing them, write down melodies and chords they hear in their head, or imagine a melodic phrase and play it instantly on their instrument. Musicianship combines ear training, music theory, technique, intelligence and creativity. It is the key to becoming a fluent musician. Musicianship teaches the skills that unlock the secret to musical success and enable you to read, compose and play with ease. The Academy teaches musicianship in a way that requires only your voice, ears and body to develop the instinctive recognition and understanding of a seasoned musician.
A new approach to group guitar classes... using our unique and exclusive Edara Musicianship Method... The class is designed for those already on the musicianship course who have an understanding of the language but is open to all aspiring guitarists. Promoting vertical learning, the class is open to both adults and children and runs every Saturday 2.30pm - 3.30pm for just £9.60 per week!
Next term begins Saturday April 20th, please book in advance to secure your place. This is not a drop in class.
The Academy creates musicians. Born out of a belief that music is for everyone and developed to challenge those who disagree. We strive to commit every music lesson to enhancing, inspiring and teaching the next generation of musicians.
We teach according to individuals' needs and desired outcomes, whether that be taking lessons as a recreational activity, passing music examinations or becoming a professional musician.
The company resides in a four storey building in the heart of Camden (London) complete with Grand Piano, Music Rooms, Dance Studios (for hire), Cafe and a state-of-the-art Recording Studio.
Through its doors walk budding young musicians, aspiring singer/songwriters and rising stars. A hub of creativity, passion and ambition - the atmosphere is electric and inspiring; an infectious place to work, learn, teach and create.
Ensembles, bands, choirs and performance troupes are the catalysts behind the musical energy of The Academy. Regular concerts and gigs take students out of the classroom and onto the stage; performance (we believe) being at the heart of every musicians' success.

The Academy has witnessed the inspired and passionate teaching of some of the country's most sought after musicians and nurtured many a young musician through their musical journey. More than just providing an education, (albeit an education which challenges current preconceptions of the music institution), The Academy encourages an all-encompassing experience of the music industry. A world behind the doors of number 15 Pratt Mews where everyone is invited to connect, learn, teach, perform, write, create and succeed together.
Charged with raising the bar in the world of musical education and setting new bench marks, The Academy Team will stop at nothing to provide and achieve excellence. Expect great things from the knowledgeable, inspired and musical bunch who are driving their remarkable ethos forward.

Classes address vocal techniques including breathing techniques and a whole array of repertoire selected to enhance the use of vocal techniques taught in the first part of the class. Harmony work plays a big part and students are encouraged to explore 2, 3 and even 4 part harmony singing.
Classes are self contained and so do not follow on from one week to the next as a course would meaning you are not commited to a defined schedule.

As an adult venturing back into music this has been the best place I could possibly have found to start my journey. Between Harriette's vocal coaching and Tom's Songwriting course, I have increased my confidence with my musical ability and understand the importance of learning the fundamentals of music which are taught in such a way that it is much easier to digest and more fun than the chore of music theory back in school. Thank you!

This is a great find, tucked in a mews house in Camden. It is full of enthusiastic teachers and talented students. They have a unique musicianship course for kids and adults. I am taking piano lessons there after a 20 year gap and can't recommend it enough.

My daughter age 13 has attended The North London Music Academy since it opened, with weekly classes in singing and music theory. Her teacher has taught her to love to sing in a way that has both inspired and encouraged her. My daughter has learnt how important it is to work hard, practice and to be creative which has encouraged her to develop and be successful in passing her singing exams. Thank You for your commitment and having the best environment where it is not only fun, but also rewarding.

My daughter's been taking singing lessons here since it opened. There's so much expertise here, but also a real passion for music and an atmosphere that is always about enjoyment and fun. There's also a concert every term, so everyone gets to put it all into practice. Superb

What originally started out as a group-on deal for five lessons, has kept me returning to the North London Music Academy for the last five months! The warmth, patience and attention of the staff, and being lucky enough to be taught by such a talented team of professional musicians, has aided me with my performance confidence and skills. Do not think that the Academy is just for school children either! It is for all ages! I am a 33 year old professional, who has attended both singing lessons and their song writing course, and am currently considering sharpening up my guitar skills there too. I only wish that such a place had been around when I was younger, because it would not only have helped me thrive musically, but strengthen my self-confidence in all that I do.

Our boys love coming here for their guitar lessons and the musicianship course. The staff are so encouraging and make you feel as if you belong to a family. We know that the skills they are getting will stay with them for life and who knows - aim for a Grammy! Sky's the limit - that is how infectious and positive the NLMA teams dedication is!! The end of term concert was magical - watching our son play the guitar so confidently after so few lessons. Superb!!
