The Ox is an upmarket traditional pub located on Liverpool Road in Castlefield. The pub is generally warm and welcome and is a popular place for the local residents and a few Coronation Street stars!I think this place really comes into its own in the winter (especially around Christmas) when its warm ambience shields its customers from the cold weather outside. The drinks are on the expensive side but the bar staff are pleasant and efficient. The Ox is also held in high regard for its home cooked food – especially its Sunday roasts, which I have tried once only. I found the meal agreeable but I was expecting it to be fantastic so I was a little let down. I also had to pre-book a table on a Sunday and I considered that the meal was a bit overpriced for what I got. I haven't had a meal there since but the new menu does look enticing and I would give it a second chance.

Good food, well prepared. Service could have been better. We were offered bread and olives whilst we waited and had to chase these up. (Sort of defeats object).Price, not the cheapest around (I ate in an Italian Restaurant in Bloomsbury the previous weekend for almost the same price for three courses and a couple of pints)Disappointing range of ale.
