CAN YOU REALLY GIVE ME A NEW SMILE IN JUST 6 MONTHS?

Yes we can! We are pleased to offer the Six Month Smiles System which uses tooth coloured brackets to straighten your front teeth – the perfect choice if you need your teeth straightened for an upcoming special occasion such as a wedding.

Because it only treats the front teeth, treatment is much quicker than other braces treatments, however we will advise whether this type of treatment is suitable for you at your free consultation.

How can the Six Month Smiles System help me?
Six month smiles can be used to treat the usual conditions such as:

crooked teeth
Unsightly gaps between the teeth
cross bites
misalignment
unsightly gaps
under bites
Overcrowded teeth
The braces are discreet and use tooth coloured brackets so your mouth won't look like it's full of metal like usual fixed brace.

Does it really just take 6 months?
The actual treatment time will depend on your circumstances which we can advise upon at your consultation. Most results are achieved in just 6-9 months. The system employs the latest technology and techniques in dentistry to move your teeth quickly and safely using a tooth-coloured brace that is attached to your teeth.

What happens during treatment?
Whilst undergoing treatment, we'd recommend you keep a good level of dental hygiene and try and avoid food with a high acidity content as well as any ‘sticky' foods – stay off those toffees!! You should brush regularly as usual and use an interdental brush to give your teeth a thorough clean.

There are no more risks of root damage or other issues than those associated with traditional orthodontics. Since the forces used with Six Month Smiles braces are lighter and teeth are seldom extracted, there are actually even fewer risks involved with Six Month Smiles orthodontics.

Yes, as with any teeth-straightening treatment a retainer is necessary to maintain the straighter position of your teeth. If you don't want to wear a removable retainer, you can have a bonded retainer placed. There are a variety of options that you can choose from according to your personal preference and situation.

Take the first step to straighter teeth
If you're interested in getting straight teeth in just 6 months, then arrange a free consultation with Stacey, our Treatment Co ordinator. She'll run through the various treatment options and give you an idea of the costs as well as your finance options so you can pay off the treatment in easy monthly payments. WHICH INVISALIGN PRODUCT IS RIGHT FOR ME?

I've written this blog post to summarise the differences between the various Invisalign products we have to offer.

Invisalign Full
Invisalign Full is suitable for most patients who have conditions such as crowding, spacing or crooked teeth. On average, treatment with Invisalign Full takes between 12 and 18 months. In most cases it may be necessary to fit small attachments onto your teeth to help achieve certain movements. These are very discreet and I will show you examples before you start your treatment.

Invisalign Lite
Invisalign Lite works in much the same way as Invisalign Full and aims to treat simple to moderate cases in approximately 7 months, bridging the gap between Invisalign i7 and Invisalign Full. Invisalign Lite can treat patients with minor orthodontic problems. The treatment will usually include no more than 10 transparent aligners therefore typically making the cost and treatment time less than the Invisalign Full treatment.

Invisalign i7
Invisalign i7 is generally recommended for patients who have minor orthodontic problems, including slight overcrowding, tiny gaps between the teeth, badly positioned teeth and poor alignment between the upper and lower teeth. The treatment will include no more than 7 transparent aligners and can straighten your teeth in as little as 3 months with the option to have more aligners if the teeth require further movement.

Invisalign Teen
Invisalign Teen has been developed specifically with teenagers in mind and is designed to help maintain their self-esteem and self-confidence. Whilst being very similar to the original Invisalign brace, it has a number of special features that have been designed to meet the needs of younger patients.

It can be used to correct overly crowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, overbites, crossbites and underbites. During Invisalign Teen treatment, teenagers can keep up their active lifestyle, play sports and smile during social activities.

Some traditional wire and bracket braces can present challenges for proper brushing and flossing, contributing to food and plaque build-up in the mouth. Because Invisalign Teen aligners are easy to remove, they promote better oral hygiene, as well as a pain-free experience with less irritation to the gums and mouth. Traditional braces can also carry a stigma of being unattractive and noticeable, leaving teens feeling self-conscious and afraid to smile.

Whereas traditional braces also can require emergency visits to the dentist to fix a broken bracket, Invisalign Teen provides replacement aligners in case others are lost or misplaced.

LINGUAL (INCOGNITO) BRACES

Lingual Braces attach to the inner surface of the tooth inside the mouth where they cannot be seen. Being attached to the inside and not to the front (like ‘train tracks') means they are inconspicuous so you won't feel self-conscious about wearing them. They are also custom made for each patient following a treatment plan and are able to correct all types of incorrect tooth positions.

Lingual braces can be worn by all age groups, from children, adolescents and adults. Success can be achieved in a very short time – from as little as 3 months. Due to their inconspicuous nature, they are often chosen over fixed braces (or ‘train tracks') and will allow you to act more naturally and maintain confidence, both at work and in social situations.

How long will it take to straighten my teeth using Lingual Braces
Treatment times vary depending on complexity and they can take 3 months in simpler cases and 18 months in more complex ones.

What about cost?
Lingual braces are more expensive than traditional braces as the procedure involves more advanced training and customisation in order to fit. It is not possible to set a definite fixed cost for each patient which is why we offer a free consultation which will allow us to assess your individual circumstances and requirements. We will then be able to provide a treatment plan and quotation for treatment.

LINGUAL BRACES VS INVISALIGN

In this post, I set out the differences between Lingual and Invisalign braces together with the pros and cons between them.

Lingual
Lingual braces are virtually undetectable; they hide behind your teeth. The braces are made up of metal brackets and wires and like traditional braces, they cannot be removed by the patient. Starting off with Lingual braces can sometimes be uncomfortable, they can irritate your tongue and give a slight lisp. Lingual braces are also harder to clean. You cannot see your braces and are not removable, so be extra careful brushing your teeth.

Lingual braces can make more precise adjustments to your teeth than Invisalign, so can have a better finishing result. However, some bite conditions cannot be fixed with lingual braces.

The pros of Lingual braces:

Completely hidden
Gives orthodontist better control over your teeth
Fixed braces – cannot be lost
The cons of Lingual braces:

Can be uncomfortable to begin with
May give a slight lisp
Harder to brush your teeth and brace
More expensive

Invisalign
Invisalign braces are clear and removable, though more noticeable than Lingual braces. They are more comfortable, with no mouth irritation as there are no brackets or wires. As they are removable, it is easier to clean your braces and teeth. They also feature wear indicators to show they are being worn enough each day (at least 20 hours). For teenagers, Invisalign can allow for the growth of adult teeth.

Invisalign braces can feel uncomfortable to begin with, and can sometimes cause a lisp. However, this will improve over time as your mouth gets used to the brace. Sometimes, small tooth coloured buttons are required to move your teeth the right way. While these are designed to be as subtle as possible, they can make your braces less discrete. However, Invisalign braces are more affordable than Lingual braces and can be removed throughout the day.

The pros of Invisalign braces:

Mostly hidden
Removable
More comfortable – no metal brackets or wires
Can feature wear indicators to make sure you are wearing your braces for long enough
Allows for new permanent teeth for children
The cons of Invisalign braces:

Can cause a slight lisp
Can feel tight to begin with
Discreet, but more noticeable than Lingual braces
Only works while wearing, need to be worn for at least 20 hours a day
May need to add small tooth coloured buttons to your teeth for moving your teeth in certain directions, this is not permanent and not always necessary but can make the braces less discreet
Dentist won't have as much control with aligners than fixed braces and it can be hard to make precise changes
