Having read a number of the reviews I couldn't agree more. This place is a disaster. Five of us sat down to enjoy a meal in the restaurant - 28/02/09. Just got back. First of all having taken the order they came back and said they were out of marrow for the Steak. No problem we thought. Only for one of the steaks which was clearly too small to be sliced in half and folded over to make it look bigger. Clearly they were short of steak too. Then the carrots that came with the fish pie were raw. Having told the waiting staff they were taken back. Two minutes later the waiter was back saying the chef had said they were perfectly cooked. A demonstration in front of the waiter as to how difficult it was to cut them was then performed and also with a piece of broccoli which shot off the plate when cut because it was so raw. Finally, when we ordered coffee we were told they had run out!!! Never heard of this before. Clearly going down the tubes. Then when we told the waiter we were only putitng in 6% service as oppsed to the 12.5% discretionary he asked us why!! Clearly he had forgotten about the tiny steak, no marrow, raw veg and lack of coffee. The bar is a good place to drink but the restaurant is a disaster. The chef clearly does not listen to criticism and maybe this place would be better served in different hands. Don't eat there.

If you know Greenwich it's pretty likely that you will know the Trafalgar. It is a mammoth, attractive tavern that does not look the slightest bit out of place amongst its historical settings. The pub sits right on the river and the views are simply marvellous and this really draws in custom. The pub is always packed due to tourists which means it is noisy making it difficult to converse with friends. The grub here is not great and the beer is a little on thepricey side but this is made up for by its location. A good gastro pub with a good vibe worth a visit if in the area but not other ways.

Three of us ate Sunday lunch there a couple of weeks ago. I think the location and the general ambience absolutely fantastic. I live in the area and often used to visit for a dinner, it used to be relatively simple faire that was quite well cooked at an acceptable price. About two years ago we had a meal that was quite simply awfull and although we've been there many times since for a beer, we had not eaten there again until a couple of Sundays ago. We had Sunday lunch. The Fish and Chips were dry , and the Sunday ( Beef ) Roasts were terrible, and this was worsened by them being drenched in a diabolical sauce. We complained and were advised that the sauce was " jus " and not " gravy " as I called it, and further more no one else had complained. I asked how long the chef had worked there and was told five years. We complained then, and were told the same thing. The restaurant would undoubtedly be super busy if they would listen. I know all tastes vary, but it cannot be emphasised how positively bad the food is. The Manager and Chef are awful the Restaurant dieing just because they don't listen to complaints. Please send in Gorden Ramsey

Mixed thoughts

First of all, I didn't have anything to eat here, so I'll strictly be focusing on the drinks and surroundings. Prices were ok, can't complain too much. Bar wasn't wonderfully stacked, but had all the regulars. Surroundings were rather so-so. There are a few selling points, namely the fact that it used to be the favoured place of liberal thinkers/politicians, and the fact that it is on the waterfront. I also hear that it serves great whitebait, but I don't know about that. So, then's the decor. We sat in the back somewhere, and I felt as though we were still stuck in the middle ages. There was something rather musty and damp about the look (though thankfully, no smell). It was dark, and in other places seemed to need renovation. Not at all to my liking. The crowd here also seems to be a mixture, a few tourists, locals and the odd city group, meshed in with a sprinkling of barely-18s. It makes for interesting observation, but I think reflects the fact that there is no main crowd being drawn here. It doesn't help that this is off the main footpath, and wetherspoons in town is far closer. Despite all that, I do sort of like it.

We had a great Sunday Lunch here. The waitresses were really friendly and helpful. The food was lovely , the meat tender with superb gravy and the puddings wonderful. I would definitely recommend the Trafalgar Tavern for a 'Special' sunday lunch.
