Welcome
Here at Universal Martial Arts Studio we aim to provide only the best in martial arts for both kids and adults. We are based in Walkergate, Newcastle Upon Tyne and are always open to new members; from absolute beginner to advanced.
About Us
We provide a variety of martial arts training and practice to people of all ages, including young children. Our courses aim to increase self confidence and promote health and fitness within the community.
Universal Martial Arts was formed in 1998 at Ouseburn Community Centre, with lessons only twice a week. In May 2005, I decided I wanted to take my love of martial arts and teaching to be my main job, I visited large martial arts schools around the UK to see how they were run, and also attended many seminars for teacher training, from some of the best professionals from around the world, learning child psychology and the protocol used for teaching children to build their confidence and self esteem.
Since 2005, Universal Martial Arts School has grown and grown, we moved to new, full-time premises on Heaton Road, and again in September 2009 moved to our current 3500sq ft studio which is now the largest martial arts school in the north east. We now have around 200 members, over 150 children aged from 4 to 14 enjoying the benefits of martial arts and life skills. Alongside this, Universal Martial Arts has seen a growth in the adult classes, now teaching over 60 adults kickboxing and Jujitsu in a relaxed and safe environment. With the new premises I hope the school will continue to grow and more children and adults will enjoy leaning martial arts as much as I have over the years.
Karate
Kids Karate, Little Dragons 4-6 years of age then Childrens free style Karate for 7 years to 13 years, Family Martial Arts centre with friend, fun and exciting classes for all. Build your child's confidence, fitness, self esteem and life skills.
Kick Boxing
For ages 14 years and up, friendly fun classes for men and woman, done in a relaxed way. Good high energy classes. Classes for beginners and advanced, sparring is available but optional so the kick boxing can be done just for the fun, fitness and self defence side.
Ju Jitsu
Adults Ju Jitsu for ages 14 upwards, Ju Jitsu teaches street smart self defence, close combat, locks, throws, striking, stun techniques. How to take your opponent to the ground leaving you able to escape or imobilize your attacker

Amazing Classes
I go to both the Ju-Jistu Classes and the Kickboxing Classes both classes are amazing I have built up my confidence from when I started to now. The Ju-Jistu Is great for learning self defence and take downs its alot of because its aimed and anybody and anything and it can really help if you get into trouble on the streets or bars/clubs and on the plus side its a great cardio workout out and alot of fun at the same time. The Kickboxing is great as well with great, friendly instructors and everyone is easy get on with and you can have a laugh and learn stuff at the same time! I reccomend both the Ju-Justu and Kickboxing to anyone of my friends and family because no matter if your just starting or are experienced both classses are great and very educational!

Fantastic
Both my daughter and son are attending universal 3 times a week and love every session they attend.The instructors are always very friendly and supportive and strive to bring out the best in every child whilst still having fun,thoroughly recommend this school to all. Steve Walker.

Brilliantt!
Both my daughters go here. The youngest goes to the kids Karate between 4 and 5 nights a week and she has loved it ever since she started 7month ago, The instructors are great with the kids and make the training fun as well as educational so they learn faster without the stress some other clubs put on them. My eldest daughter goes to both the Kickboxing and the Ju Jitsu classes and i have to say even though she is the youngest in the classes everyone always makes her feel welcome and helps her and she has come on in leaps and bounds in both confidence and ability. The teaching in both classes is second to none. She is always happy when she finishes class even though she is shattered from working hard. She has learnt so much in the way of self defence in the ju jitsu and the confidence build she has learnt in both classes is just what a teenage girl needs. Anyone who is thinking about going to either the kids class or one of the adult classes should definietly come and have a go. Overall it is a friendly and and very value for money club with outstanding training!

Brilliant
My Son(now age 5 1/2)started Little Dragons last year a very timid, scared little boy! Wow! He has gained so much confidence and is like a different kid. He loves attending class now, has met some wonderful friends and the staff and Instructor are just wonderful with the children. Im hoping my little girl(2) can wait till shes 4 to join as she just wants to be on the mats with all the dragons having fun, exercising, learning moves and most of all respect! Well done Mr Savage :o)

Excellent
I've been attending Kick Boxing at Universal Martial Arts for around a month now and I have had nothing but a positive experience. The friendly environment, excellent instruction and intense yet balanced work-outs contribute to an all together gold standard. Along with its very reasonable value in the time I've been with UMA I am already feeling and seeing the physical changes in myself, with increased cardiac output and strength not to mention fat loss. In addition to that I have a generally improved sense of mental wellbeing which is no doubt from both the exercise and the top-standard coaching and support.
