About

Velvet Cottage

Velvet Cottage is a family owned, recently modernised 3 bedroom end terrace cottage situated in a quite magnificent setting one and a half miles North of Llangollen. It is an ideal base for hill walking, mountain biking, canoeing, rock climbing or simply exploring the famous North Wales countryside and mountains.

Velvet Cottage can sleep five and is suitable for small parties or family groups. Full self-catering facilities are provided, although there are many options for eating out locally - the choice is yours!

The cottage is available for rental on a weekly or weekend basis.

The Cottage

It is believed that Velvet Cottage was built about one hundred and fifty years ago, although there is evidence of a dwelling on the site in 1606! It's position on Abbey Terrace affords views out across Valle Crucis (Valley of the Cross) towards the Horseshoe Pass in the distance. The cottage was built with local slatestone and the thick walls offer insulation in the Winter and welcome coolness in the height of Summer.

Velvet Cottage has been recently modernised and has been graded 3 star by VisitWales. The downstairs room floors are covered in the original terracotta quarry tiling. Over the years the floor has been protected by carpet coverage and as a result it is in immaculate condition. The living room ceiling features the original oak beams, painted black in traditional Welsh style.

The extensive garden features lawns, flower beds and heather bushes. It is enclosed by access gates and is quite safe for children to play in. A private exit from the back of the garden leads directly onto National Trust owned Velvet Hill.

The property features:

* Grade A (Everest) double glazing
* Electrical Damp Proof Course
* Two large twin bedded bedrooms and one small single bedroom
* A large bathroom with brand new enclosed electric shower, bath, basin and WC
* Attractive lounge with log effect cast iron stove.
* A large kitchen with brand new all electric cooking hob and oven, sink and drainer, fridge/freezer and fitted storage units.
* Six seater dining table with panoramic view across the valley.
* A heated outhouse for storing and drying outdoor clothing and equipment.
* Electrical central heating system with thermostatically controlled radiators and timer controlled hot water heating.
