Founded in 1948, Thompsons of Prudhoe is the north's leading demolition and earthworks contractor. With 330 staff and a fleet of 135 trucks plus a vast array of plant, Thompsons offers a complete, competitive and integrated package of services to suit contracts of all sizes and types - from £500 to £5 million.
From company headquarters at Low Prudhoe in Northumberland, Thompsons manages the operation of four quarries, four waste disposal sites and three recycling centres across Northumberland, Durham, Cumbria and Tyne & Wear.
Chairman John Thompson Snr is the son of the firm's co-founders, William and Margaret. Also serving on the board are son John and daughter Helen. The other directors are John Burdon and Frank Hurst.
To further utilise the Recycling arm of Thompsons business, the company has invested in 45 skip wagons through which a skip hire service is available to both contractors and the general public. All types of waste can be removed - including hazardous waste - in skips from mini size to giant, 35 cubic metre 'roll-on-roll-offs'.
ineedaskip.com is a UK-based site offering an online skip hire service, providing a variety of standard sized skips for everyday home or garden clearance, for large or small jobs. Options include delivery of aggregates or decorative gravels inside the hired skip, which can be tipped out on arrival or delivered in a door-fronted skip for ease of transporting by barrow onto the site. If you cannot find the size of skip you need, or you need materials delivered which are not shown, or if you would like to open a trade account and register with us, then please contact us.

Thompsons' constant aim to improve its earthworks and demolition services has culminated in a network of three transfer stations, a recycling centre and four waste disposal sites which handle all waste produced by contracts.
About 95% of all demolition waste is recycled to produce, for instance, reclaimed timber, topsoil, slates and building stone along with crushed concrete and brick (to GSB Type 1 and 6F1/2 specifications). Cardboard is sent to a papermill and waste timber to a chipboard manufacturer, both local. All Aggregates are produced under a quality control system which ensures an end product which is compliant with specification.
