My arthouse is based in the 19th century former Leith Assembly Rooms. They are seriously classic in structure This is a Grade ‘A' Listed building with pediments, columns and traditional windows of the period.
I have tried to learn from my past experiences of working and traveling worldwide – in New York, Hong Kong, Paris, Milan, London and many other fine cities.
I want my guests and visitors to feel welcome and wanted. I like some sense of individuality as opposed to the impersonality featuring in many hostelries.
The location of my place is really good in that it is not far from the centre of Edinburgh (only two miles ) and there is good local public transport as well as plenty of taxi companies. It can be fine to return from the excitements of the city centre to the haven of a relaxed neighbourhood where there is a terrific choice of places to dine. Three Michelin star restaurants are within five minutes walk. There are several delicious Scottish seafood eateries and loads of international cuisines – Spanish, Italian, French, Indian, Chinese, Thai etc etc.
My rooms are newly styled by myself. I have tried to preserve the ‘feel' of the 19th century but also have catered for my guests with today's 21st century needs and wants. I have Wifi and central heating. I have en suite facilities in all of my rooms and there is a small cooler fridge as well as a kettle with a selection of teas and coffee. I have supplied a hairdryer to each room as well as a small iron.
I try to present a healthy breakfast of cereals, fresh fruits and fruit juices as well as seeded breads, herbal teas and freshly brewed coffee.
