3*'s this time but I'll definitly give it another go.Having seen the website & read a couple of reviews I had high hopes for this place, which weren't quite met this time. I was expecting a classy experience, (the kind where you can almost feel awkward if this isn't normally your scene) but the service & what they had available really let the side down & the food took AGES to come even though the place was less than half full : ( A situation the waiter could have handled better, although we did get free olives & nibbles so it wasn't a disaster. That said, when the food did arrive it was delicious & made with organic & local ingredients, but not hippy stodge by any stretch; light, tasty, well cooked. One review said £90 for two with wine but we only paid that for 4 of us, which included olives, starters & mains.. 1 bottle of wine +3more glasses & a beer. Supremely well fed, and merry, for £22.50 pp. Not bad at all. This place runs on sustainable energy & doesn't sell mineral water, amongst other things, so they are leading the way & I'll definitely give them another chance.

Wholesome, unpretentious sister restaurant of Acorn House from the Shoreditch Trust. The restaurants support good work in neighbourhoods and promote sustainable practice, local sourcing and real food. That bit is complicated but the food really isn't. Great tasty, honest and ingredient-led deliciousness. There is safety in the menu, which borrows from the almost modern classic anglo-european experience but some edgier touches from a smoky rich brandade or tingly black pepper ice cream really excite. For dinner, its not a "cheap eat" but you can comfort yourself in the knowledge that you are buying into something worthwhile, that the local community directly benefit and that you are not offsetting the costs of eating out by cheap labour, exploitation or poor farming practice. This place is, however, first and foremost a well run restaurant with excellent culinary standards and not a charity case.A warm, simple dining room looking over the canal and excellent personal service make this little back street hideaway something rather special.
