About

Headteacher's Welcome

Wembley High has an established reputation for a strong focus on academic excellence. Over the last five years we have been the highest-achieving non-denominational school in Brent.

Our mission is clear and simple: we provide a structured, disciplined working environment in which every student receives high-quality teaching and achieves his or her full potential. The School is first and foremost a learning community, which is reflected in its strong work ethic. There is a high standard of teaching across the curriculum with a particular focus on English, Mathematics and the Sciences. All students benefit from the use of state-of-the-art facilities across the science and technology disciplines, major investment in new facilities and resources, the best trained and qualified staff, and a culture of mutual respect.

Spiritual, social and moral provision sits alongside academic excellence at the heart of the School's ethos. We offer a broad and stimulating range of extra-curricular activities to support wider learning, and provide an education that enables our students to gain places at universities of their choice.

We are proud to serve our local community and provide students with the opportunities to succeed and achieve their ambitions.

School's curriculum

Wembley High offers a rich and extensive curriculum.

Our fundamental belief is that all students are entitled to an individually tailored and holistic education. We therefore encourage students to sit exams as soon as they are ready, and offer a wide range of additional qualifications and extra-curricular enrichment to provide a rounded learning experience.

At Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 8), we place great emphasis on giving all students a firm grounding in the core subject areas of English, Maths and Science. Pupils are streamed by ability in their classes, and further setting takes place in English, maths and science so that everyone receives appropriately tailored tuition.

At Key Stage 4 (Years 9 – 11), we provide an even more personalised curriculum which is geared towards students' individual aptitudes and skills. The curriculum in each pathway consists of the core subjects and a range of choices that allow pupils to progress on to courses at Key Stage 5. As a unique feature of our curriculum, we encourage pupils to sit exams when they are ready for them and many will finish in Year 11. Those that achieve high grades then have the opportunity to pursue additional courses or higher study in a wide range of subjects.

Our Sixth Form (Years 12 – 13) is very successful and prepares students for the transition from school to university. Pupils have a wide variety of choice with most pupils taking 4 AS – Levels in year 12 followed by 3 A – Levels in year 13 and the vast majority of our students go on to gain places at leading universities.

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form at Wembley High is very successful. We offer a full range of academic courses at AS and A2, taught by highly qualified, expert staff.

For study over two years, students can choose from a wide range of AS and A2 subjects. Most students study four subjects at AS level in Year 12 and three subjects at A2 level in Year 13. These courses are for students who have attained highly at GCSE level. Subjects are taught to the highest level by experts in their field and students and teachers share the common aim of achieving individual excellence.

Students are rigorously prepared as young professionals for university and graduate careers. Support with preparing high quality university applications comes from a team of trained specialist staff. The vast majority of our Year 13 students successfully apply to a range of higher education courses at some of the most competitive universities.

Study takes place in a modern learning environment in the new Sixth Form Learning Centre. As well as having new classrooms, students benefit from having modern state-of-the-art study areas for their exclusive use, equipped with learning facilities and resources to support their study and independent research in a professional environment.

Sixth Form students are encouraged to participate fully in Sixth Form life and play an active role in the College and wider community. Students have the opportunity to sit on the Sixth Form Council, be a Subject Ambassador, a Senior Prefect or hold other responsibility positions and are positive role models to younger students.

A variety of enrichment opportunities are offered in the Sixth Form and feature strongly in Sixth Form life. These include several long-term programmes linked with outside organisations and leading universities, events involving the development of team-building and problem-solving skills, academic projects and competitions and extra-curricular societies and study groups. We have strong relationships with Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, and Imperial College London and strong links with businesses and organisations in the workplace.
