Profile: Mike Hemsley FBIPP....

....is a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography. Over the years his commissioned work has won many major National Photographic Awards and his latest work still collects awards (see news section).To date he has faced a variety of subjects including Aircraft simulators,Naval Submarine, Body Scanners, Public Sewers,and even contraceptives and toothpaste...what have you got in store for him?
Should your shoot require it Mike has access to a large studio, digital image capture, digital workstations, studio and location lighting ( stills and video), Scanners, asdl, digital print services, film recorder, photo library and historic archive. Equally equipped for location shoots Mike responds to commissions from around the UK. I shoot digital using a FULL FRAME (38mb) KODAK DCS PRO SYSTEM. If you have to create attention in an exhibition, need large A0 posters or require flexibility for unlimited enlargement - 99% of the time I'll still shoot digital but,who knows,artistically I might shoot on 5x4" film, 35mm film, a pinhole camera or even a flatbed scanner !!. Digital is brilliant,but which ever route is taken, the camera (ie. capture) is only a means to record the event,remember..."It is the VISION of the Photographer that creates the image!"

Good photography is above the heads of most Estate Agents!

Buildings have feelings too!.....isn't it strange that Estate Agents, whilst familiar with the concept of selling property fail to market them as homes when taking photographs. All too often an extreme wide angle lens is used - close up and distorting with buildings leaning over at alarming angles. A simple technique will work wonders.....step away from the house, use a standard lens, put the camera on a tripod and then whilst holding the legs of the tripod together, set the camera on timer (say 10 seconds).....then hold the camera high aloft your head to a height of around 10 feet up. CLICK!! .........you now have a high , undistorted viewpoint of a house, the foreground garden opens up in front of you - this is a view of a house that will make people want to buy! The Agent must have taken care to create this promotional image, its not like all the other images from other local agents - you stand apart, get noticed - make sales.
