Beginners' Classes in Aikido

The White Oak Aikido beginner's course has been designed to offer you a structured introduction to this exciting martial art. Our team of highly skilled and qualified teachers will ensure that your training will be to the highest standard. Training is open to anyone over the age of 18 and we have no upper age limit.

Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art, a way of self-defence and self-development. The techniques of Aikido originate from the throws, joint locks, sword and staff techniques of the samurai warrior. Modern Aikido uses evasion techniques and the strength, momentum and aggression of the attacker rather than relying on being stronger, fitter or faster oneself. Aikido maximises the effectiveness and efficiency of the practitioner's own body and movement, developing a deep understanding of how the body works and how this power can be used most successfully. Regular training in Aikido also helps practitioners to become more centred and grounded and thereby better able to deal with the stresses of daily life.

Testimonials

(Aikido) is really interesting, I think everyone teaching is really great, showing you how to do a move first then coming over to make sure you are doing it right. I think we also learn a lot from each other. Everyone is friendly and kind and helpful.
