Their smoked tomato and olive garlic bread combined with Fagioli soup and the Calzone Carne Piccante with spicy chicken are my favourite combination from the menu. I recommend the restaurant.

New Zizzi - shape of things to come?

I couldn't resist testing out a new, fresher and more modern looking Zizzi today. Ok, so it's a chain and you see them everywhere but this review is prompted because it is new and new is supposed to be interesting. The bright green logo and modern interior is matched by a slightly different menu but more notably by details like: a gazpacho amuse bouche (!), posh cutlery and a napkin. Which makes you wonder: what is going on? The feel is fresher, frankly more pleasant but it is more than skin deep? My thoughts were probably not, however this is a better experience for the new style, so congrats to the New Zizzi marketing team.Key questions:- Is this the shape of things to come for Zizzi?- Will the bill be going up to match this posh-ification? (I couldn't see any dramatic rise today but maybe I wasn't looking hard enough and maybe that is still to come?)Watch this space Zizzi fans...

Chewing Gum and Smokey Ovens

We all know that Zizzis serves good pizzas from its wood fired ovens. And their salads and pasta are fine too. Personally I prefer Pizza Express but that's another review...There are two things about Zizzi on Paddington Street that need to be fixed.1. There is chewing gum under most tables, chairs and even some stuck to the pillar in the centre of the restaurant. One of the girls in our party had to go to the loo to wash her hands. Gross.2. I work on the 6th floor of the office next door to Zizzi. For the last few months we've been smoked out at 11.30 am each morning when they light their wood fired ovens. Their chimney pumps out really noxious smoke straight into our office and it is digusting. We've contacted the council who are now working with Zizzi to fix it. So hopefully this can be sorted out. See the video for what it's like.
