We sell 20,000 + office products in all categories to all types of consumers - retail, business to business and public sector.
It seems that the office supplies manufacturers (particularly the Hewlett Packards, Lexmarks and other printer consumable manufacturers) have all woken up together and decided to throw caution to the wind on January 1st. with prices increases of 30% + when compared to just November 2008. It seems to be a concerted move to prop up their own profits at the expense of their captive customers who may have to put up with these higher costs. However, at Office Loro we want to actively help our customers in these hard times with an alternative route.UK business customers have long realised that once they have bought an office printer or fax, they are locked in to buying the original toners/drums or ink-cartridges. It must be awful to find that you are at the mercy of a an uncaring multinational that appears to be mercilessly exploiting you over products that are overly priced normally - let us face it, that is the average customers perception of consumables that can often cost up to 50% of the value of the original printer! In these times of credit crunch and belt tightening, these unwarranted price hikes are only too painful to absorb.Clearly whilst the printer is working you have no choice but to feed the demon of the printer in the corner of your office with fresh supplies. When buying your next printer, it should at least remind you to ask your supplier about the cost of consumables first rather than just focus on the printer's price, speed or resolution. But for now, you might be lucky and find a compatible new built cartridge (as distinct from a refilled one) that might save you 20 to 25% compared to buying an original HP or Lexmark. Another idea is to at least enquire about the high capacity or multipack original toners rather than just a standard capacity as the cost per 1000 pages on these is invariably lower than on the standard capacities.At Office Loro, we are actively encouraging all businesses to try and switch to a new built compatibles where available. We have invested in special IT tools that help with identifying an equivalent product - no mean task when there are hundreds of products with incomprehensible string of numbers that are confusing to read accuarately let alone remember! And we have always recommended office machines together with fully detailed information about what the consumables cost and yield.I guess these recent price hikes will make it more important than ever to make the right decisions and seek good support from competent specialists - and if they are local suppliers you have long standing relationships with than that is at least reassuring somewhat.February 2009
