Garden Designers in Somerset & Bristol

We're a partnership between Saint Martins designer John Pannell and surveyor John Heaton. We create imaginative, artistic (and practical) garden designs in Bristol and Somerset.
My name is John Pannell - I'm the principal garden designer for 2 Johns, ably assisted by conservation surveyor John Heaton (the other John) who helps with construction and project management. Together we have created a number of beautiful imaginative gardens in Somerset and Bristol. Some of these have been large gardens for country houses but we also love to design small compact gardens for cottages and town houses. Whatever the size or shape of the project we like to spend time with our clients to explore all the options and will do our very best to create the garden they want.

I've loved gardens and gardening since I was a child. I've been fortunate in having the opportunity to design, build and plant several of my own gardens mostly starting from scratch (retaining a few feature plants, trees and structures - it's amazing what you can do with an Andersons shelter). I studied design at Central Saint Martin's School of Art & Design and worked for many years in the theatre where I collaborated with other artists, sculptors and designers. This background has given me a good understanding of how to make creative use of colour, texture, form and space in my garden designs. In many ways, a garden is not dissimilar to a theatre set - it should, of course, convey the atmosphere and character you want to achieve (whether romantic, dramatic, peaceful or fun) but it must also work in a practical way for your family, visitors and pets.
