My classes focus on the disciplines of yoga, relaxation and meditation with their accent on posture, breathing and focused awareness with selective attention to Eastern spiritual practices. They are a great way to do a physical activitiy, a means of strengthening the body, improving flexibility as well as learning to access clearer, calmer thinking patterns. There is an intrinsic link between the body, mind and breath which means when you change one of them you automatically change the others. When we work with the breath and keep our attention on it, we begin to slow it down which has the effect of slowing down the mind and body. This helps reduce stress and helps us to become calmer and experience tranquillity. I am a member of the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) which is a registered charity. BWY is the Sport England recognised National Governing Body for Yoga.
I am a yoga teacher based in Oxford and a member of St Francis Church in the Parish of Cowley. Yoga is not a religion, and thus, it can serve people of all faiths or beliefs, or of no faith. The benefits of yoga are for everyone. I know there are a variety of misconceptions among Christians about the practice of yoga. They fear that by taking up the practice of yoga, they might undermine their own religious faith.
