Private Maths Tutor and Mathematics Tuition

The language of mathematics, or Maths, is universal. Mathematics has been around for as long as we have had written records. Maths is about algebra, geometry and arithmetic. When someone checks their bill or designs a bridge or works out the orbit of a satellite, they use mathematics.

A Maths qualification is essential for many entrance exams and many jobs.

I bring to the tutoring of Maths my ability to unravel the most challenging of topics, significantly increasing the confidence of the child.

Here is an example of a typical 11 plus Maths question:

There are 65 passenger seats on a bus. The bus starts off empty. At the first stop, 13 people get on. At the second stop, 15 people get on and 4 get off. At the third stop, 20 people get on and 5 get off. At the fourth stop 24 people get on and 9 get off. How many of the seats on the bus remain empty?

(Answer: 11)

Whether your child is struggling with numbers in Reception or working towards a Scolarship, I can help.

Private English Tutor and English Tuition

Good English enables children to express themselves with creativity, imagination and confidence.

English is now spoken as a main language by over 300 million people around the world and as a second language by many more. It is the world's most widely used language.

As well as improving grammar, spelling and basic skills, I look to enhance the powers of understanding and expression of the child.

Testimonials
"In the six months my son has been with Michael he has improved at such a fast rate it's been hard to keep up: 100% for Maths results, top of the class for long handwriting assignments, being moved to the top groups for both Maths and Literacy. Michael's manner and methods are both inspiring and effective."
Many thanks, Ms. Julia Assad
“My daughter Annie had Maths tuition with Michael Drayton. It really boosted Annie's confidence. At the start of tutoring Annie regularly scored around 30% in her minute Maths tests at School. Within no time she was getting 100%. I would definitely recommend Mr Drayton."

Private Science Tutor and Science Tuition

Science is concerned with everything there is in the universe. A physicist studies the atoms and particles which make up all matter, and electricity, heat, sound, magnetism and light. Chemists investigate the different substances the world is made of. Biologists explain living things.

Science works by building up theories and then testing them.

Science is essential to the modern world.

I bring a freshness and enthusiasm to my tutoring of Science. I ensure that the child doesn't just learn the principles of Science but understands them as well.

Private Verbal Reasoning tutor and Non-verbal Reasoning Tuition

Verbal reasoning is about questions such as:

Jump is to (high, long, up)

as crouch is to (cower, down, hunch)

The child has to find the two words, one from each group, that complete the sentence. The answer to this example is up and down.

Non-verbal Reasoning mainly tests the ability to identify visual patterns. The question might also ask the child to complete a sequence of numbers, for example:

23, 19, 15, 11, 7, ( ___ )

The answer to this example is 3 (subtract 4 each time).

In both Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning, my aim is to bring out all the underlying abilities of the child, enabling the child to succeed with the full range of questions likely to come up in tests.

Testimonials

"Cavan was struggling with his Maths at School, and was under the expected level for his age group. Within weeks we found that Cavan was far more confident with his Maths. Although he was predicted to get a level 3 in his Maths SATS exam, he achieved a level 4, and vastly improved in other academic studies. Most notably, Cavan’s self-confidence has improved dramatically."

Mrs L Murray
