Despite the closure of the highly acclaimed Hop & Spice the entire kitchen team, having worked there, were determined to continue making and serving the food our customers love. As a result, we took the bold step of opening our own restaurant: Ale & Spice.Our mission statement is quite simply to continue cooking innovative and delicious Sri Lankan dishes for you and all of our customers.

Ale & Spice we endeavour to stay faithful to authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and culture with accompanying rice or bread. A single flavour option is also available for those who have a particular favourite dish and do not wish to have a range of curries to choose from. The single flavour option also comes with basmati rice, chutney, raita and popodom included.

Sri Lankan food is generally lighter, with less cream and oil. A wonderful choice of meat, vegetarian, seafood and island special . Sri Lankan food can be exceptionally spicy on request. sri lankan mums always prepare six or seven different curries, portions of which we would serve around the edge of our plates – a varied and yet balanced meal.We bring this to Ale & Spice with our thali menu. Your choice of dishes (we recommend five dishes between two) is served in our signature cooper pots to form a traditional Thali plate.
