Since 1957, with the exception of six years in the aluminium industry, continuously employed in the marine industry, variously as merchant naval officer, yacht surveyor, yacht designer and boat builder.
From 1995 to 2001, Associate editor Practical Boat Owner Magazine, while continuing with all of the above practices. Still a contributor to the magazine on a monthly basis and acts as Consultant Editor.
The author of several technical books on various aspects of recreational boating, the latest being the Diesel Engine Handbook for the Royal Yachting Association, published January 2006.
