Devizes is an ideal base to explore all the surrounding attractions. With over 100 places to visit there is something for everyone, come rain or shine. The biggest problem you'll have is in deciding which attractions to visit, which is why we've broken them down into various categories under the tab “Out and About".

If you love National Trust and English Heritage properties you are spoilt for choice with over 20 of them all less than an hours' drive from Avalon Lodge. If you love gardens as well, then you may never want to leave as we have 15 special places close by.

Likewise, if you love churches and architecture there are numerous attractions which will fill you with joy and provide memories for years to come.

Meanwhile if you are looking for the simple pleasures in life, beautiful countryside, the impressive white horses (eight in the county), wildlife and the gentle pace of canals you will be rewarded with the attractions of Wiltshire.

Of course there are also more adventurous activities from hang gliding to motor racing, horse racing to grabbing a bargain!

We can come up with itineraries for days out to ensure you make the most of your time and can even provide a packed lunch if that helps. We have maps, guide books and leaflets on all the main attractions and are happy to check places out on line.
