Designed to remove hydrocarbons (Oil and fuel) from water the Bilgeaway filter is intended to reduce water pollution throughout the world. The Bilgeaway filter is the first filter capable of absorbing harmful hydrocarbons from water and then stopping them from interacting with the environment. This is one stage lower than full decontamination and effectively renders the hydrocarbon inert. The only way the hydrocarbon can be released once absorbed is through incineration or through natural decomposition. The filter media has been classified as compostable however, if sent to landfill as per the guidelines set by government, it will continue to attempt to absorb hydrocarbons until its maximum absorption is achieved, therefore continuing to benefit the environment even after use.
The filter was designed with the customer in mind and is simple to install and maintain. It has been designed to be highly resistant to blockages and allows none contaminated debris to pass through the filter uninhibited. This stops the build-up of suspended particles which cause blockages in competitor products.
