We are a family run business of joiners and master craftsmen with over 30 years' experience in the building industry.

We established Cedar Direct when we were unable to find a sustainable, high quality, cost effective source of Canadian Western Red cedar cladding in the UK.

However, whilst Canadian Western Red cedar cladding is undoubtedly the ‘gold standard product' it is expensive to harvest and import into the UK. We also found that we were working on an increasing number of projects where sustainability, low carbon footprint and minimal environmental impact was at the heart of the design. This naturally led us to evaluate whether locally grown alternatives were a viable option.

From our base in the South West of England we already had exceptional contacts and relationships with the local timber supply chain; from forest, to harvesting and round timber processing. And it was through these contacts that we found our first sources of sustainably managed, British Western Red cedar. Ever since then we have championed the virtues and quality of the British grown alternative, but recognised the need to offer the widest possible choice for our customers.

Our supply chain, machinery and processes have been optimised from the outset to ensure that we can offer the lowest cost British and Canadian Western Red cedar cladding in the market. We buy direct from source (the UK's southern cedar forests and British Columbia's Pacific Coast forests), hence do not pay an agent or other facilities for processing. We own all of our tooling, plant and processing facilities outright, hence have minimal overheads compared to our competition. There is no waste; we recycle and reuse everything. Cedar pellets or shavings are the only by-product from cladding production. As we grow, we will benefit from greater economies of scale which will drive our prices even lower.
