Having been established for over 24 years, as a specialist provider of precision cams, Chiltern Cam Service soon realised its potential within the packaging industry machinery spares market and through customer demand and market trends diversified into manufacturing of spares, for example; levers, change parts, product moulds, sprockets, knives, index rollers and conveyor rollers.

All of these products complement our precision cam manufacture (including barrel cams, plate cams and slotted cams) and a variety of other services including sandblasting and chemical blackening.

SANDBLASTING

One of the many services that Chiltern Cams Service offer is sandblasting. Sandblasting, also referred to as bead blasting, is the easiest, quickest way to remove old paint, rust, dirt and grease from metal and other hard surfaces. Sandblasting can also be used for etching frosted decorations on glass.

A sandblasting machine works on the same principle as a paint sprayer. Compressed air at high pressure is used to blow sand or other abrasive material through a hardened spray nozzle. The abrasive particles eat away whatever they are directed at, leaving a clean surface.

Chiltern Cam Service fully prepares a vast amount of spares for packaging machinery by sandblasting prior to spraying or chemical blackening. We can offer sandblasting to a maximum of approx 17“ and are suited to small batch work castings and smaller engineering parts.

CHEMICAL BLACKENING

Chiltern Cam Service offer a room temperature blackening process with a simple dip operation specifically designed for use in factories. The process does not materially effect dimensions and a uniform colouring is obtained over machined surfaces, threads and blind holes. Chemical blackening is achieved by chemical conversion of the metal surface. The process entails degreasing, immersion in a surface conditioner and blackening solution. Corrosion protection is afforded by a final immersion in a dewatering oil.
