We never 'pin', 'check', 'choke', 'shock', or reprimand a dog.
When a dog sits next to an owner of the sofa we believe that they want a place that is safe, warm, comfortable and close to their human. They are not trying to assert their position as 'pack leader'.
When a dog walks through the door first we think they are excited about their walk, dinner or someone at the door. We don't think they are trying to be the 'alpha'. The reason we train our dogs not to go outside the front door before us is because we don't know what lies out there and we want our pets to be safe!
When a dog humps another dog/human/chair/stuffed we believe that context is everything. Sometimes it's something sexual - sometimes it' s not. Like play-fighting, sometimes it's just an (un)dress rehearsal for real life within a play session. Some dogs find it comforting and others find humping is a good outlet for frustration and even anxiety. It is not one animal trying to lead the pack or take over the world.
Most of all we don't think that dogs bite unpredictably when they want to teach their owner who is boss - we think dogs show plenty of warning signs using their body, face, action and vocal chords. It is our job to teach owners to learn who their dog is and to listen to his or her needs.
We believe in science. Scientific studies of animal behaviour have taught us that positive reinforcement is the most successful way to train anyone from a child to a chicken and definitely a dog.
