The transport truck from Germany arrived at the expected time. We were able to pick up the 1.5 cubic metre bags of Techno-Por with the digger fork and empty them on to the prepared and shuttered site which we had first covered with Geo-Textile. The Techno -Por is light to manoeuvre and was easy enough for me, a 66year old woman, to rake level. We then tampered it down, passing the the machine over the surface no more than 3 times to lock the pieces together to secure a firm, solid base which did not shift when walked on. This surface was covered again with Geo-Textile and then, on top of that, with damp proof membrane. Then the rebars were laid ready for the concrete pour. The pour went very well. To sum up: Techno-Por was a very easy method to install and I already have an insulated floor slab without having to add extra. It has been very satisfactory. I would like to add my thanks to the Techno-Por UK team who have been unfailingly helpful with guiding advice and ever patient with my queries. It really was as easy as they said it would be. We decided to use technopor following the advice of our architect, Paul Richards. It felt like quite a different material and none of our groundworkers had heard of it before. The biggest challenge was how to get the large bags delivered to our site, as we were only a self-build with very narrow access. But with a lot of ingenuity and trips with his small digger and pick-up truck, our groundworker finally delivered them to the site. They were easy to empty and spread in the foundations with a small digger and shovels! We covered them in a DPM to enable us to put a screed down for the underfloor heating, which otherwise would not have been necessary. The actual spreading of the technopor seemed relatively easy and clean compared with a more traditional concrete based foundation, as well as the benefits of its green credentials.
