Restaurant - South American in London
54 Balls Pond Road
London
N1 4AP
Peruvians in London are going to hate this review, because this is one of only 2 Peruvian restaurants in London (the other place is no better...) and it would be a shame if London had no Peruvian restaurants at all. I love Peruvian food, and have more desire than anyone to see a great Peruvian place in London. But Aguajal just isn't it. In fact, nearly everything about it is an embarassment to Peru. You couldn't get a worse advertisement for the country than Aguajal. In fact, I wonder how many people have planned a trip to Peru, eaten at Aguajal, and then cancelled their flight. It's not that the food is bad. It's nothing like the quality you'll find in Lima, the capital of Latin America when it comes to food, but it's not bad. If you've never eaten a ceviche, you might enjoy what you get at Aguajal. The wines, well, I don't know why there are no Peruvian wines on the list, since Peru has been winning a lot of prizes for its wines in the last 10 years. Still, all quite forgivable... But why, why, why did the place have to be so tacky?

This is a fun and vibrant place. Also, the food is of very good quality as are the exotic drinks. I have been to this place various times and have enjoyed it each time. The restaurant is now at 578 Kingsland Road, just around the corner from the old place, very near the Barclays Bank. Go to this place and have some fun, I did.
